Apologies for the newbie question... I've had my V12V for a few months now and am loving it. I have read a lot on here and elsewhere regarding the removal of the secondary cats. Everything written seems to be positive and I'm really tempted to take the plunge. Has anyone actually regretted doing this mod?

Hi, I did the secondary cat removal two weeks after getting the car, with the CC Chargers dongle thing to open the exhaust flaps a week later. Now gone the whole hog and changed the exhaust manifold to tubular steel and race cats, no regrets from me, just makes it sound more awesome than normal

If you keep the backbox exhaust valve function you get best of both worlds smile

Not in the slightest, it's night and day different from just pulling fuse 22, if you are anywhere near Bridge Mill give them a call and have a chat with Mark, they did a great deal for me...good luck

The only regrets anyone might have are not doing it sooner, or spending more money on other exhaust type mods which offer less bang for the buck

Assuming you still have the original back box, or one of the very few aftermarket boxes with valves, then it's worth considering a remote/switch, that basically does the equivalent of pulling the fuse in & out

In fact, some remotes have a 3rd option, which is keeping the valves permanently closed (the other two options which are on all remote systems being valves permanently open or valves opening up at appropriate points in the rev range).

By having a remote, it allows you to keep the noise down when cruising and perhaps using handsfree on the phone or early morning starts when you don't want to annoy the neighbours, but opening up to get full benefit of the de-cat whenever you want

My Rapide has a 3 way hard wired switch from BR - OEM, open, closed. Had to WD40 it to get it into 'closed' for a quieter long motorway run once wink

After I collected my car, I drove straight to BR and they removed the secondaries. Within 3 hours my V12VS was singing beautiful tunes. A ccharger 'memory' switch helps adjust the volume, which is handy on a run.

No regrets at all. Not one.

No regrets whatsoever - I had mine done prior to delivery from new - in fact the now departed Barista at Works suggested it.
Rocker switch fitted on steering column when I don’t want to upset the village even more.

Had mine done a couple of weeks ago. Jury is still out to be honest; it is very loud and less 'cultured' than it was.

When you're on it, just fantastic. All the rest of the time...

Haven't driven it enough to make a final decision but they could well be going back in. I guess that's the answer to your question; make sure you keep your cats and it's pretty straightforward putting them back in if you choose.

Ps. Mine's a roadster, so a bit different

Best bang for your buck modification you can do. I also only drive mine with the rear parcel shelf flat in the boot for added effect.

I have fuse 15 in the ashtray and haven’t bothered with a switch.

I do live in the countryside though, so no neighbours to wake up. Only pheasants, but they’re normally up anyway.

If you don’t want the ‘Full fat’ experience, Mike at BR will fit 200 cell ‘baffled’ cats which soften the rawness.

European 18MY V12 Vantage S’s do not have secondary cats.

Am I missing something? Its the primary cats you want out. Double bubble, removing a potential cat ingestion problem and a thumping big improvement in the performance (see Bamford Rose thread for Feb this year for more details) . Do this plus 200 cell secondary cat so you don't loose your hearing and to get through MOT emmissions. Yep its going to cost a few more sheckles than secondary cat tweak but I have no regrets, I have the car performing as it should and the noise on full chat is incedible.

No regrets. It’s superb, lovely crackles and pops on over run. With valve open.

Sounds better than some expensive systems I’ve heard

Primary cats are monitored through the obd, and also ££££ to remove requiring new manifolds costing ££££ and fitting them. The secondary cats are there to mop up emissions during obd self tests. Removing the secondary cats is easy (relatively - 1/2 hour quoted in manual), does not require any meddling with the engine calibration and the car will pass emissions tests (18MY cars only have primary cats).

Thanks for all your responses... it's the final nudge I needed to take the plunge smile
Yes, I still have the stock back box fitted so will install the remote switch which I brought but never fitted as I haven't ever felt the urge to reign in the sound, just the opposite, hence the question.
I best start buttering up the neighbours!

I had my Capristo De-cats fitted on Monday to my V12VS roadster. I was concerned that it would be too loud as her indoors used to moan like **uk about my previous F430 Spider, with a Larini back box. But all good, as long as she does not read this she has no clue. It is louder but with the Ex Valves closed it is good, not too loud. When I want the full fat I press the sport button, but make sure I turn it off on getting near to my home. The only down side is the cost of these, best part of 600 notes for two pieces of stainless tube fitted with two triangle flanges. That is taking the *iss.

The three way switch sounds interesting. Any idea how these are wired up?
