New Upright Airline seat......

I have seen this story about every six months for the past two years. While on the one hand it would allow airlines to really pack them in, I can't imagine it would be feasible for anything more than a 30min-1hr hop. It would also raise huge issues. A seat is a seat, must people can sit in it (if they fit in it). How do you make this thing work for small children? Disabled? Fat? Tall? Etc? Without even considering outliers, your run of the mill adult could be anywhere from 5' 0" (or less) to easily 6' 6"+. It would have to be massively adjustable to accomodate all passengers, wouldn't it? And it is pretty hard to stand up on a plane, outside of the aisles, because of the luggage bins. What do you do with all that storage capacity?

That's been the case on the budget carriers for some time now, makes perfect sense in my opinion.The best short-haul flying experience is BA economy in the exit row with priority boarding & lounge access. If you are lucky and there are lots of Club passengers on your plane, you can get the exit row seat (9/10 IIRC) and still be in Club, if you can't wait to get to the terminal to have a drink.

That is strange as I found the opposite. Flew Jet 2 a couple of years ago and saw they had hard backed seats which were surprisingly comfortable and gave decent leg room as the seats frames were so thin. As it was a short haul flight the lack of reclining was a positive.jkh112 said:

As it was a short haul flight the lack of reclining was a positive.As noted above I don't think the semi-standing seats will gain much traction as they're not really good for anyone except an adult between 5'4" and 6'2"... It also means you'd have to take out the overhead lockers.
It's a bit like congestion charging. They're going on and on and on about it happening outside of London. It's not proving acceptable, but it'll come as they keep chipping away.
I view these seats the same way. It'll happen.
Looks horrific. Air travel, unless you're prepared to pony up for business class (certainly not something I am prepared to pay my hard earned money for - so I just won't fly) flying is just an awful, uncomfortable and degrading experience.
