Just picked up a 2015 530d, with 19k on the clock.

I noticed on the way home (an 8 hour round trip, so I wasnt going back), that when the wheels are straight, the steering wheel is down on the left side ever so slightly. Correcting it to the right level meant the wheels were just out to the right. Nothing serious, but enough to make you stay into the next lane, over a distance of around a hundred yards.

What could this be? There is no wobble, vibration, judder or anything from the steering. Both tyres are the same brand and type and both have lots of tread, i'd say maybe 3 or 4 months old at most.

Is it a wheel alignment? Is that the 4-wheel alignment places like quickfit do, or is it something more serious i should consider taking to a dealer? It doesnt affect the drive of the car much, but it drove me bonkers on the way home. Luckily i hardly do any motorway miles or i'd be insane by next week.

We have had this on 3 out of 4 porsche cars we have owned. Maybe something to do with the cars being set up for driving on the right?
4 wheel alignment sorted it.

Sounds like wheel alignment. Get it checked at a place with a proper Hunter alignment setup.

FWIW my 2015 530d is dead straight on the Motorway.

.. ever so slightly.
If it really is slight then sometimes it's a matter of opinion. I went to one place that levelled the steering wheel with a spirit level, but it then looked odd as it was slightly out of line with the dash.

Again, if it's slight, it might be uneven wear on the front tyres - sometime swapping them over (if they're not directional) can straighten things out.

I wouldn't take it to KwikFit on principle. If you don't get any specific recommendations locally, then find a place here: https://www.alignmycar.co.uk/

KDS at BMW.

Just make sure it’s a good BMW garage.

BMW Sandal Wakefield are good, as are BMW Cooper Malton apparently.
