Your opinion on me buying my second car ?
Discussion
Hi all im just looking for peoples opinions on what ive recently done that has divided peoples opinions.
In January i went out and bought a newer car. i ended up falling for a 2009 saab 9-3 1.9 tid turbo edition very low miles and at a cheap price. i bought this with the intention of gutting the dpf but reading upon these new mot rules ive decided against it. i really love the car and at only 22 it feels so good to be driving a bigger car than what ive previously owned, selling it and buying the petrol variant isnt an option i love how this drives i know fixing diesels can get costly but thats just a risk ive taken and budgeted for ! i commute an 8 mile round trip per day and ive always been aware of short journey runs for diesels being bad for them. i was riding a 125cc scooter to commute on instead of taking my saab but that recently gave up the ghost dramatically after buying it new just over a year ago (£1200 down the drain).
Ive always been really interested by the 'Bangernomic' threads on this site and it got me thinking about buying a second car something small engined to potter about in to and from work and maybe a bit of a project car to tidy up and tinker with. on saturday i found a 2003 peugeot 206 1.1 in a forecourt with only 68k 2 owners from new and a fresh mot until april 2019. got it for a bargain price and im made up with it. i bought, taxed and insured it for £1300 (at 22 with a separate policy to my saab so no ncb bumped the price up) all in.
Some work colleagues think im crazy and think ive wasted my money and that i should just use my saab for work but on the flip side my dad and a few others think ive done the right thing !
Please note i do use my saab a few evenings, take it to work once a week and use it most of the weekend when im driving on motorways more etc.
Whats everyone opinions im starting to doubt myself after hearing all this negativity ?

Can you afford it?
Are you happy?
Do you agree it matters one not one jot what anyone else thinks?
If the answer is ‘yes’ to two or more, you’re good to go
haha good point cheers !Are you happy?

On a serious note, I’ve owned anything upto 5 cars at a time - I’m a car enthusiast and happy to indulge my passion where I can afford to do so - like the tide, fleets ebb and flow - from a peak of a 911, CLK 430 V8, Cooper S, A4 cab and a Superb - I’m now down to an A6 avant!
Make hay while the sun shines in my book...!
F%$% um thats what I say
Over the weekend I drove my 22 year old Saab 900 from Bude to Dublin and back 700 miles on the road with no problem
I have a 2000 Toyota Previa with 300, 000 miles on the clock and never lets me down I would jump in now and drive it down to Greece and back if I had too I know it would not let me down
I love cars but wont spend more than 1K on a car I got more money in the bank that those who run cars they cant afford
So I say F4%$ um !

Having a second car is always a good idea if you're interested in becoming a DIY mechanic in my opinion. It's no longer a problem if you're half-way through stripping down your engine on a Sunday afternoon and realise you need to order a couple of extra bits before putting it back together!
I've always had 2 or 3 cars since I was 19. As long as you can afford the extra insurance and tax then there's nothing to worry about, assuming you have space for parking. Insurance costs will lower over time of course as you build up NCD on your second policy.
