Speed, Plod and Social Media
Discussion
Let's say someone owns a powerful sports car, drives like a tit and posts prolifically on here and other fora, boasting about the ridiculous number of 'leptons' he does.
If he is prosecuted for a speed related crime, can the prosecuting authorities take account of his social media posts, can the police compel the miscreant to disclose his on-line name or password, and can the court draw an adverse conclusion if the on-line name and password are withheld? And can the police compel the website owner to give up the real identity of SpeedKing123 who has confessed to some horrendous speeding offence on social media?

As nearly everything ever posted on unsocial media is a complete load of bIf he is prosecuted for a speed related crime, can the prosecuting authorities take account of his social media posts, can the police compel the miscreant to disclose his on-line name or password, and can the court draw an adverse conclusion if the on-line name and password are withheld? ks I wouldn't have thought it would help them much.I think you're getting 'confessions' and 'ego boosting boasts' muddled up.

Iirc, wasn't 10 Pence Short's posting history on another forum used against him in court to portray him as having a bad attitude to driving?

I don't recall offering up proof of identity when I joined pistonheads. About the best the website owner could offer is proof I had access to some arbitrary email address at the time of joining.Unless there’s specific evidence then I wouldn’t have thought so but if someone said they were doing x speed in x location and the police happen to have cameras there then I suppose they may investigate, I know someone posted a video on YouTube of them speeding and they worked out the speed from the passing trees or the road markings and he showed his face on camera, (I think it was an Ariel atom) he got done I believe

I drove my 1.25 Fiesta at 150 mph in the 20 zone past a school at 3 pm yesterday. Bring on the prosecutors.
Nah. Fiesta doesn't go that fast. Sure it wasn't a Razzle?
Showing my age there maybe..... Wonder whether they still exist....

I would say that police wouldnt have the time or man power to investigate that sort of thing. They always say they are too stretched to attend burglaries and other crimes they consider minor.
But they do seem to like trendy crime fighting. So i can imagine them tracking someone for posting evidence of themselves speeding and finding the man power to send a few cars and a van to arrest someone.
