Hi,
they were attached with either bobbins or rivnuts.
I have fixed this issue using Rawl hollow wall anchors and replaced the screw with a bolt, you would have to buy the insert tool though, however they work a treat.
You could also probably get a rivnut in, but again you would need the insert tool. I am not sure if when compresssing the rivnut ( if steel) it would damage the FG though.

This is from memory, but Iam not sure if you can get to through the boot.
Open the boot, pull the carpet back, remove the insert that normally has the tyre weld in it and have a look.
In all honesty I had the everything out of the car at the back including the fibreglass panel that the speaker cover fixes too.
I would just use what I described, they do work and the backs of the fixing open up to actually distribute the load anyway.
