Does anybody know what type of tool and rivet (?) BMW used to affix the armrests on to the door cards as shown by the black fittings in the attached picture?

I want to change my armrests, just not sure how to do it yet.

It's a long long time since I had the door cards off my E60.
Can't remember the type of rivet though

I do remember that if you change the door handle trims from metal type to wood type, the handles themselves are different too - only a very slight difference in locating peg position.
I posted on 5series.net at the time under this user name if you're curious!

I think that they are plastic pop-rivets, but that is what I am trying to confirm what is actually used. I'm keeping the handles the same.

Pretty sure you are correct though I’m not sure of the technical name. The E46 uses the same method to fix the interior door handle to the door card. I have changed one using a hot air gun to heat the rivets for removal and refitting. I used a teaspoon to reseal them when hot.
