BMW e46 318 not cranking

Hi all, over a period of time I've notice a slight possible pause while starting car before the crank.however yesterday after only just driving,turned key nothing apart from dash lights 🙄 Left car for the afternoon tried again stated right away several times any ideas folks as don't want to be caught out ?

Sounds like a problem with the EWS, the key chip not communicating with the ECU. Try the spare key. If you're not got one, buy a service key from BMW, 30 quid or so.

Could be the starter motor, ignition switch, a few things.

When I had my e46, it did the same, turned out to be the cam position sensor. When it heated up, after driving, the car wouldn't restart, when it was cold or left for a while, all fine. Was super intermittent at first then became more and more regular.

If you're able to, get it hooked up to a code reader, if it is the CPS, then it'll throw up codes P0344 and P0340

Recently had a new crank sensor, as I said may of had a slight pause in the past.it's a 2000 plate had a cam sensor new air flow and fuel pump and filter since Christmas.

Sounds ideal 🙄 I've a spare I will have both on me and see what's what had issue this morning changed key it worked then tried first key again and that also worked so none the wiser
