vw scirocco but which one??

So I'm in the Market for a Scirocco. Originally I was looking at Cat C/D (S/N) write offs to bring the price down however I have now discounted these after visiting a few shady dealers. Here is the car I am going to look at tonight:

There is also another Scirroco which is basically identical however it's pre facelift and has only 3800 miles on the clock for more of less the same price.

Both are from approved VW dealers and are obviously going to be a bit pricier, the question is by how much? I don't have much experience in car buying so i'd like your opinion on these 2 cars? I've pretty much got my mind set on a scirocco however i'd consider other options if you think there is something close. Are these dealers able to be bartered with? When I wen't to JCT600 last they told me they no longer negotiate on price, they wouldn't even knock me £250 off. In terms of the 2 models, im finding it difficult to decide between the facelift version vs - 13,000 miles which for me would last a good couple of years. Thanks
Do you really need a diesel? What's your annual mileage, roughly? I'd go for the 2.0 TSI petrol if you can. It's a cracking engine and can be had really quite cheap these days too. It's basically the Golf GTI engine, so it's pretty strong, robust and not too bad on petrol either for the power.

I do have long journey to and from the east cost every few weeks but truth be told most of my millage is racked up driving locally. Whilst I agree petrol would probably being the better engine, in my last 3 weeks of car hunting I have only seen 1 petrol 2.0 version and it was way out of my budget at around 20k. However it's important to know ive pretty much maxed my budgett at 16.5k. There is literally nothing I can do to go more except wait a few months to save up and I cant wait that long without a car

No need for a diesel at all at 7k per annum. Essentially, you don't do anywhere near the mileage to qualify it being the cheaper option and saving cash. The difference between the petrol will be negligible. You will also likely run into DPF/EGR issues too, which won't be pleasant.
Why are you adamant on spending so much money? Early 2.0 TSI GT's start as low as 7k. Surely around 10k will get you a good enough example? Maybe a little bit more for something with less miles and a bit newer? You can save the rest as a fund for any maintenance that's required.

It's the R-line model I'm interested in. They dont really come that cheap, Ive seen a few regular Sciroccos for around 10 to 12k. Tell me then do you think something liek this would be better?:

My concern is the engine wont be as good at the top end of the range spectrum that i really want. I'm also interested in leather interior and the facelift model. I guess the model I like is hard to find in a petrol and is just expensive :/

I’m surprised there aren’t many facelift 2.0 tsi examples around. They were very cheap on lease recently but that deal has now gone.
16.5k is a lot of money for a car that is essentially based on a chassis designed 15 years ago. I admit they are good looking cars however! You’ll have to take the 1.4 tsi 125 for a test drive to see if that’s enough for you but I’d personally avoid - you’ll have a car which is all show and no go, especially in R-line guise!
With your budget the VW I’d go for is a mk7 golf GTI. Newer, better to drive and more powerful (the facelift Scirocco uses a detuned 2.0 tsi, 180 bhp not 220 bhp found in the Golf). The 3dr looks quite coupe-esque in my opinion.
You’re probably within touching distance of the latest mk Audi TT. The Toyota GT86 is another option. Hope that helps!

The 1.4 TSI ain't bad. I had one in my previous pre-facelift model. It's nippy, but doesn't really belong in the car tbh. The 2.0 TSI is a good balance of performance and economy and suits the car.
I can see that you're quite picky, which is fine, but you're really limiting yourself.
Thanks for the input guys, I tried the 1.4 but... meh. Like you said it doesn't belong in there. I guess I am kinda picky no doubt about that! You're right the GT models do look just as good on the outside and the interior on the facelift models are basically the same, however nice newish GT models can around 12 to 14k anyway with a few more miles on. A lot of people say the interior of the Scirocco is outdated but honestly I like it. I guess it's the same way people see older classic cars, It's horses for courses I guess. Cleanliness is also what I look for, I don't like cars that have been neglected in the past. The Golf MK7 is a nice looking car for sure. thanks for the input guys
You also can't get the DSG with the 1.4 TSI either. The Scirocco is still a great car, IMO. It's a bit odd that a coupe-like car based on the Golf, which is lower and wider, didn't really make it as a big seller for a VW. At the time of the MK3's release, the 2.0 TSI was actually cheaper than the Golf GTI!
Yes, the chassis is based on the MK5 Golf, but it was at least updated as the Golf did, in the interior department. The MK5 was actually a good platform to work on. The new one was to be based on the MK7's MQB iteration, but they decided to axe it for yet another small SUV, the T-ROC. Yawn!
I got one on the cheap limited deals, of the last few batches before they stopped production. For the money and what it offers, i certainly don't regret it. I would have preferred the Golf, but i'd be paying a hell of a lot more for it!
