Ferrari Steering wheel paddle

So far this season Ferrari have intrigued me with their engine and electronics. The oil burn no longer burning and spitting out the back (seen quite a lot in bahrain under the lights).

The weird puffs/billows of smoke coming out of the garage as the cars exit the pits.

Think it's something akin to when McLaren had a double brake pedal? Something that's altering the exhaust? Or just something for the start procedures?

no expert here but they reckon its to do with cornering as its can be accessed at all times.

Pure speculation below(may be against the rules):
Moves brake bias based on its position allow Seb to tweak his lines on corner entry
Diff lock adjustment - as above but for exit
Kimi Raikonnen pit delay potentiometer
Manual battery power acceleration/regen override, prevent regen or deploy manually
Deploy oil slick to prevent overtake

It's the trigger finger paddle. It releases the pressure and that's why he's not waving it as much as he used to in the past.

Far too many systems on these 2018 cars. Just continues to increase the costs.

F1 keeps stating that safety is the most important part. They put the halo onto the cars to prevent fatal head injuries for example.

However driving on the road using your mobile is dangerous and will land you with points and a fine.

Yet the pinnacle of Motorsport allows drivers to take their eyes off the road to adjust their settings while driving at 200 mph.

What sort of example is that showing?

20 of the worlds best drivers in cars going the same way on 4 miles of race track that's normally as wide as both sides of a dual carriageway with no obstructions or pedestrians.

I vote for this. It was said Merc already had this last year that allowed Lewis to defend at several close encounters with the red car.

It's a spare paddle just in case they find themselves up that well known creek without one.

Had he been on the public roads that could have been pedestrians mowed down but the controlled environment meant nobody was hurt.

You can't take the example of the most controversial driver to grace the grid in a generation... How many others have managed anything like it recently?

Could be some sort of fine diff adjustment, but indeed a battery deployment override seems much more likely with these cars.
