just taken the 400 for a 15 minute shakedown run, including a couple of 120 ish moments along the local dual carriageway, just to check that nothing was about to fall off / leak / break. First time driving it for almost a month. What started out as simply fabricating a couple of heat shields for the starter (one from ally sheet between the starter and the manifold, and one from heat reflecting matting sandwiched in wire mesh around the manifold - overkill probably), led to treating all the accessible chassis tubes around the front end and the outriggers with rust killer and 3 coats of Hammerite (in white!), followed by replacing the petrol hoses along the o/s sill, and finally changing the AVO front dampers for RT's versions. Oh, and having the pas pump repaired twice to cure a leak. Well I've still got a leak, this time from a split hose on the pas pump, splattering red ATF all over my freshly painted white chassis. That aside, it felt and sounded great, with the dampers on pos. 10 from fully hard (or 4 from fully soft). Not much to go on for a short drive, so I'll experiment further with them. And the sun was shining too......
