As per the title really...

Any of you RV8 chaps running high torque starters, did any of you find them at reasonably-priced suppliers? If so, which supplier?

TVR Parts prices:

£120+vat for standard starter
£293+vat for high torque version eek

Many thanks,

Dom

I must be missing something, what's wrong with the standard starter. I've been starting mine with the same motor since I bought the car at 3yrs old in 2002. It spins up fast and starts the car with no drama

No idea. The previous owner fitted my starter motor and I have stuck with it as it hasn’t had any problems at all. I think it is smaller, lighter and probably fractionally more powerful!

Agreed. On my last car, I had a £75 Land Rover one fitted when the old one failed. Ran fine for 2yrs hot or cold and still started fine when I sold the car.

Don't know about current one but it will start with a virtually flat battery cranking slowly.

If it won't start at the normal cranking speed, you have other issues than the starter I'd have thought.

Need to replace the current item - and let's face it, if I went with that line of thought, I'd still be running around with ~260bhp and 4x4 ride height laugh

Seriously, why not uprate if costs are somewhat comparable..? It's not like the rest of the car is standard... wink

Wosp £252.00

Powerlite £240.00

These are NOT recommendations, I have no experience of either brand, just suppliers I have come across when thinking about a Hi-torque starter for one of my cars

Many thanks!
Either of those 2 significantly better than the other?

Cheers!

I'd advise against the Powerlite, sadly. I've known of two here on RV8s - one of them was mine - both were troublesome. Replaced mine with a Brise axial starter - expensive then, horribly expensive now but on the positives side rock solid, draws half the current of the old Lucas boat anchor (which means I don't have to faff about with 'hot start kits' and 'upgraded' wiring) and a whopping 5.3 kg lighter than the original at 2.7 kg.
