Hi,

We are looking to go to the F1 in Abu Dhabi in November and are after a bit of help/advice as to where and how to buy tickets. What are the best grand stands etc (without spending an arm and a leg).
There seem to be several companies offering tickets/packages but having never been to a F1 race before or Abu Dhabi we don’t want to get stung so any advice would be greatly received.
(brother in law is going to be working out there by then so we have free accommodation).

We went in 2016 which was the year of the title decider.
Bought our tickets as a package from the official Etihad event website. None of it is cheap so it depends how big an arm and leg you’re willing to part with. You could buy individual elements rather than the whole package.
We flew out of Heathrow and had a city centre hotel as part of the package.
As regards grandstands we opted for the South stand at the end of a long straight with a DRS zone and a 90 left at the end. We were right by the corner which is where Button retired from his last race with broken suspension.
It gave us a view of not only the straight but the chicane as they turned back towards the marina. View was great and we could see a screen as well. Commentary was also in English.
Each of the grandstand areas has its own entertainment area with food and drink areas and a screened bar for the consumption of alcohol. Binge drinking seemed to be encouraged as everything was cheaper in bulk.
We had a brilliant time. Great race, great entertainment, great weather and obviously helped by it being the title decider so the racing was good too. There is always something going on to entertain the fans all the way from mid morning until the race starts at sundown.
It was pretty easy to get around in Abu Dhabi too from airport to city centre to circuit.
Only congestion we saw was immediately after the race when all traffic is stopped to allow the ruling family and friends to depart. Once they’re gone the police just let everyone get on with it - chaos ensued!
It was a really good weekend. Not cheap but so very well organised. The music acts that year were Rihanna and Lionel Ritchie. This year we get Mel C at the British GP. Chalk and cheese.

Tickets are cheapest via the official site. You can get general admission very cheaply on the small hill on the main straight but its not a very good view.

I favour the north grandstand as you see the cars come over the hill from t3/4 into a major braking zone, through the hairpin and away down the straight. This section is very theatrical at the start and has seen a fair few crashes. Also the grandstand itself is a 5min walk from the concert arena.

If you buy the tickets in advance you get 30% discount. You can buy direct from the Yas MArina Website
