Milltek or Borla on a 981?
Discussion
Has anyone got any experience of the Milltek exhaust on a 981?
I haven't found any clips online. The Borla system sounds excellent, I'm just concerned it might be a little loud crusing on the motorway.
My car has the PSE which sounds excellent when the throttle is wide open, but too quiet for my taste the rest of the time.
The Milltek system is active, so I can continue to use the PSE button and about 2/3rds of the price, but without hearing it first is a bit of a gamble.
Thanks
Sam

I think there are videos of 981 exhaust sounds at Top Gear exhausts' web-site and believe they can tailor the sound to your liking.
Just been a huge Group Buy on 911UK.com of their stuff (Dansk havingdisplayed appalling quality and customer service, recently) and reviews are excellent.

Haven't heard the Milltek on the 981 but have on 911s & not realistic sound IMO. I must admit I really like the Akrapovic - just really enhances the NA sound & IMO really suits the Porker. But quality doesn't come cheap. Maybe worth also considering IPE Innotech. Some of the aftermarket exhausts just don't complement the NA sound they can sound way too harsh.

The Borla is epic. Where as all I ever read on milltek is "poor quality" "poor fit" "it broke" etc...
I had the Borla on my 981C and it was great - proper pops and bangs and artillery.
How was it on the motorway? I need something that wont upset he misses too much; hopefully it's not so excessive that there's no point using the stereo. Used to have a Milltek on my Clio Sport and it got noticeably louder at 80mph due to the amount of throttle required. Yes the Akrapovic sounds good, but a bit out of my budget. I agree a lot of the other aftermarket systems don't complement the natural sound, which is my fear if I go for the Milltek. I was looking at Milltek or Remus exhausts. The benefits of the milltek were no drone (even the non resonated version) and the great looking pipework at the back. The remus seemed to be a little loud from what I read, never heard the Borla though.
Edit: I have a 987

Save your money and just buy a pse switch so you can choose when it’s open over the Revs/car doing it, pse is loud enough flaps open. I haven't found any clips online. The Borla system sounds excellent, I'm just concerned it might be a little loud crusing on the motorway.

I believe the PSE improves the sound over a standard exhaust even with the valves closed, but I didn't try a car without so couldn't quantify it.
For now I have stuck with the PSE as the bolts that hold the exhaust to the cats are corroded to buggery, and I didn't fancy the risk of having to remove the manifolds and snapping any of the bolts in the block. Not great on a 4 year old car, but supposedly par for the course on the 981s. Will likely change the exhaust when it starts blowing and the job has to be done (probably 1 more winter left in it)
I disconnected the vacuum line for a few weeks but the difference between valves open and closed is quite subtle. Still far too quiet for my taste.

When vacuum is supplied to the valves they close and the car gets quieter. If you don't notice a difference when the line is disconnected one or both valves could be corroded to the point where they no longer move. Which would tie in with the general exhaust condition you describe. For now I have stuck with the PSE as the bolts that hold the exhaust to the cats are corroded to buggery, and I didn't fancy the risk of having to remove the manifolds and snapping any of the bolts in the block.
