Comparing notes at Brighton today (and inspired by the 480bhp twin turbo Griff that was competing) we came up with the following "sensible" mods for the v8 that made a meaningful difference for fast road/track use without killing the bank bakance:
1. Pull out the pre cats - 30bhp?
2. Mark Adams rechip
3. Bigger plenum/air flow meter
3. Heat lag air intake
Braided hoses , etc etc mainly for show??
Also decided modest handling improvements re front brake upgrade only with racing fluid and harder pads and adjustable shocks.
Estimated 3k the lot - ant othgers??
Any one done th9is on anmew one - I've only done 10k miles from new - can I sell the old bits??

I knew it wouldnt be long before one of you was bitten by that griff, well if its performance you want you cant get better than an M90 eaton supercharger with the right boost set up you can add another 150bhp to your V8. A freind of mine has this set up on his range rover.We went on a run to somerset once and i had to work hard to keep with his pace and i was in my jag 4.0 xjs sport. You can have all this and some slight tweeks by dennis priddle of d.p.r. supercharger fame for just under three grand

You can - the 520 is close enough to this - but you take the 5 litre engine sell it and get another that has been built with no expense spared and detune it.
Mark Adams has been doing a lot of work on supercharging and on Range Rovers and most of the installations he has done have been mid 300s for the bhp but 400+ lb foot of torque.
He has been trying to convince me to supercharge the 520 but I am not so sure as the extra torque will simply wreck the rest of the car. Can be sorted but the costs are immense. As I can't get the power done now without spinning the rear wheels, I see no point yet....
As for cheap upgrades to any TVR. No such thing. The Mark Adamschip/bigger plenum throttle and air flow meter is good for 30 ish bhp potentially but if the car is new, any of these mods will invalidate any warrenty.

David - the one thing we might have overlooked is that little bottle of nitrous for those special moments . . . when nothing else quite does it . . . Not sure what it does for engine longevity though . . . however sensible doses might be viable
Anyone tried this at home?

3 - 5 K more like, assuming you find somebody sympathetic to do the packaging for you (this could involve a lot of labour). Everyone I talk to about this warns me about new pitfalls though, not a job to be approached casually. Plonking a detuned 5.2 race engine in would be a much easier engineering job.

Richard Thorpe NOSed a 5.2 litre Griff but found that running costs were high: new clutch every 800 miles, new wishbones to replace the ones that started to bend and so on. Cost £8k to strengthen the engine to take the power.
