Until about a fortnight ago, my Toshiba Portege A100 went into hibernation everytime. Then it started occasionally waking back up after 5 seconds. If I closed all the msn apps the problem seemed to be solved.

Now it won't hibernate at all, whatever I tell it to do. I've checked for trojans and spyware and cant find anything. I do have the suspicion it only started after installing the latest Windows XP updates.

Anyone experienced this or got any suggestions about possible causes or solutions?
Cheers

Solved it. Found 3 files in my system32 directory:

req.exe
req.dll
sysloader.dll

there was also a file I previously deleted in my root directory 1.exe which appears to have been deleted.

Take note that neither current Adaware nor Spybot check files caught it.

I've just found that req.dat has come back along with something called psc.exe. I cant delete them this time as they seem to be in use. I need to find out where they are coming from too.

do a google search on req.dat and look at the first page reply "Req.dat - how to get rid of it - Tech Support Guy" if the site is still updating (which is it right now) click the cache link for the thread.

Found another site that told me how to get rid of it here:

Sorted the problem and I've now installed additional anti-spyware protection as recommended in the thread.
