And the only free virus checker I can find although at the moment I believe its not a problem?

I wouldn't even bother with an anti-virus program, however if you do go for one, then stay away from Norton/Symantec as they tend to crash and/or bog down the system.

What machine did you buy? What OS is installed, as you probably know OSX 10.4 (Tiger) is out on Friday – see www.apple.com/uk/software/

I'm going down from Liverpool to the opening of the new AppleStore in Birmingham on Friday (6pm) - there should be plenty of demo's to see.

I use my Mac professionally, so the amount of 'must-have' software on there is huge - Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Quark Xpress, the ubiquitous Microsoft Office, and of course the standard Apple packages - iTunes, iWork (Keynote & Pages), iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie, GarageBand etc.

If you need anything else there is always lots of stuff for evaluation to be found on the newsgroups and BitTorrent!

I bought a dual 2.5ghz Powermac with the 23" HD screen. I want to learn more on the video and photography side as a hobby. So Ive been playing around with Final Cut etc. I'm still getting used to navigating my way round OSX - its a bit strange without a right click but im sure Ill get used to it. The screen is glorious btw. Any ideas where to download some HD content from?

Pick yourself up a 2/3/4/5/6 button scroll wheel mouse from Logitech or such and you'll be fine!
