A BENTLEY. What a little cracker
Discussion
My addiction to watches started from buying and selling vintage watches. I realised the other day that despite dealing with so many vintage time pieces, I don't actually own one. I started to look on eBay for a cheap one, and came across this one with only a few minutes to spare. It's a 1940s Bentley 33mm with a 15 jewel ETA movement. It looks a bit sorry for it's self, but I have cleaned it up, and have ordered a new strap for it. What's amazing, is at is actually keeping good time. On the back is "Swiss Made" and bares the number 2683 2. I am going to do a bit or research, but if anyone in the meantime knows anything abut these watches I would like to share your wisdom. Oh, and the price £7.11+postage

Old watches have a massive charm about them, a life well lived sort of thing. Sorry though, I know nothing about the watch you posted but I have a few myself: a couple of Timex, a Roamer, Tudor (9ct gold) a MuDu and a wierd thing that was my Grandfathers watch just post war, it has diamonds and rubys as indices and I thought they were just coloured glass! I had the MuDu and the old Grandfathers watch repaired/serviced properly and restored the cases and crystals myself. I do wear them occasionally and they keep good time and a nice size.

A better (in focus) photo would be nice?
Yeh, had several attempts, but that was the best I could do. The dial just reads "BENTLEY 15 jewel". I have done a bit of research on the internet, and have drawn blanks. There may be some connection with Breitling, but not sureEddieSteadyGo said:
You obviously don't use a modern phone as they are very easy to get a good image from. Try moving the camera further away from the watch as I suspect you are within with minimum focal distance.
The phone is two weeks old. I am here to talk about the watch, not my phone or photography. I bet could still have an argument in a room alone ?TiggerBits said:

Steady on chap. You asked for comments about your (very nice) watch, but it's difficult to comment on something that isn't easy to see. TiggerBits said:

How are we supposed to discuss a watch that can only be seen using 'blur-o-vision'? - We would need a good image of said watch to have a meaningful discussion. Just move the phone further from the watch until you get a focussed image.WelshChris said:

OK, this is the best I can do,as you must appreciate the dial printing is no longer very clear
I like that style of watch, especially with the sub dial for the second hand. It's a shame watches of that period are so small. Still, a nice purchase at that price if you have slender wrists.
I used to collect watches, mainly vintage Swiss and Soviet mechanical watches from ebay auctions. A few Accutrons and modern Seikos, but I stopped when I got more than I could sensibly wear and keep in rotation.
Try taking your photos outdoors. The natural light makes the watch look better and the abundance of light means that it is much less likely to come out blurry. I used to use a normal compact camera on macro mode and rattled off 20 pics in quick succession at different angles to the sun and chose the best one to post.
Unfortunately most of my photos are on photobucket, so unless I pay a fee now or bother to upload them somewhere else, I can't post them online any more.

Cheers, I can't view it because watchuseek banned me some while ago. I did view such a post on a friends tablet, is it the very rusty one ?http://forums.watchuseek.com/f11/bentley-vintage-w...

Out of interest, what did you do to get banned from watchuseek?I hope the owner of the watch on watchuseek doesn't mind, but I've uploaded the images here;

Yep, that is the one I sore. Fortunately mine is in better condition, and working a treat. Done a bit more research, and it would appear that Bentley watches were not a manufacturer, and were made by three different companies, Avia being one of them. I hope the owner of the watch on watchuseek doesn't mind, but I've uploaded the images here;
Regarding my banning from watchuseek. It's a very snobby site, and if you admit to liking any watch under £5k (unless it is a Seiko) your days are numbered. Being banned from web sites is just one of those things I am afraid. I have been banned from various political sites for having unique views, and football sites for being negative about my team. To be honest, it doesn't really bother me much

It'll be interesting to see how long you last here!
