I've just driven around Thruxton in a manual cayman and now I want to sell my 997 GTS 4 pdk for a base 997.2 manual with sports chrono with a sports exhaust.

I'd appreciate any suggestions and advice. This car is just a weekend fun car driven on B roads and today confirmed that I would have more fun with a manual.

I love the Carrera T idea but I prefer the more compact size and N/A engines on the 997.

Buy the GTS at RPM, I would if I had the funds.

What he said! Your unlikely to get more fun that that for a relatively small increment as you’re GTS to GTS.

Not sure I need all the power of the GTS in manual form but I do love the wide body.

A dealer in the south said he had heard rumours that Porsche may discontinue manuals but he had no hard evidence to back it up.

Not sure you need sports chrono with a manual, it’s main benefit is remapping the PDK shifts.

Don't you get the dynamic engine/gearbox mounts too? Plus the analogue clock on the dash of course...

Sports chrono gives you the dash wart.

Interesting how you say you prefer a compact 911 but dismiss the narrower slimmer hipped 911.2 Carrera T compared to the wider bodied model 997.

confused

I like the Carrera T and it would be a no brainer if it had the 991.1 engine. However, if I get the opportunity to test drive one in the future I might be pleasantly surprised.

I realise these models and options can be a bit confusing to some :-)

But I don't think the 997 GTS has dynamic engine mounts that were on the GT3 and turbo, , also the chrono timer does NOT have the clock like the newer models.

That is the best spec of any I've seen with a price tag to match. No doubt, destined to be sat in a garage forever.

Sound advice. What do you think about the Carrera T? Completely different sort of money but I might have to test drive one as the marketing is getting to me.

RPM GTS is a great buy - spec, condition and price.
408 NA HP from the power kitted 3.8 which really is nice at the very top with nice mid range also...Hydraulic Steering
997 Wide Body is still smaller that the 991.1.
Only things to do would be some nice tyres - ensure the chassis is nicely set up and maybe DSC and Sharkwerks Bypass...thats it...
It has folding buckets - but also rear seats so it can be your one car for everything really.

Only thing personal issue for me on car is that the front splitter, side skirts and rear valance have been painted body colour.. which was an option from new. Personally prefer those parts in non-painted black.

I loved my 997 GTS for the 3years i had it... only reason it went was because i drove a 9x1 Gen PDK, which immediately made my 9x7 Gen PDK feel obsolete and i couldn't overlook it. No such issue with a manual.

Anyway you know what the GTS is all about... questions for you ref this car are do you still like the GTS formula? how much money do you want to spend on changing from a GTS4 PDK to a GTS 2 Manual? or do you just fancy something different?

I bought my 991.1 C2 at the end of its run as a Black Edition with a manual gearbox, lots of good options on it, but at the time I could have had a 991.2 for similar money, but I specifically want the NA engine.
The car has taken some falling in love with TBH mainly due to early niggles not being handled well by OPC, & have contemplated changing, however the rarer NA & manual cars especially Porsches are becoming the more I'm falling for it's charms.
Not the fastest, but plenty fast enough for the road, the best thing is the performance doesn't come to you easily unlike modern turbo cars, you have to work at it to get the best & that holds a lot of appeal for me.
Sport Chrono adds, dynamic engine mounts, stop watch & auto heel & toe in Sport Plus mode(handy if your feeling lazy) I tend to use Sport mode & H&T myself, or at least try!!

Thanks for all your input. I've pulled the trigger on a yellow manual T. The OPC dealer has said twice to me that he has heard rumours that Porsche will pull the plug on future manuals with the exception of specials. Has anyone else heard this?

Very likely, given how few they sell in mainstream cars. It's not worth the expense/development/parts hassle. Not heard it mentioned in the press though.
