The search for a new car started around six months ago. After looking at everything from Honda S2000s to importing a Subaru Impreza STI and then sensible options like diesel BMWs, I to my wife who suggested I get something that I would enjoy driving as more of a leisure activity rather than a means of getting from A to B I put a lot of consideration and search in and many hours looking at the classifieds on here and AutoTrader I came to the conclusion that the Nurburgring Edition Corsa would be the best all rounder for what I need. It was either that or a Fiesta ST but where I live you see many Fiesta ST but I haven’t seen a Nurburgring Corsa yet never mind one in Grasshopper Green like mine.

A friend who’s got a dealership that specialises in performance cars (Dragon Carsales, South Wales) helped me source mine which is completely standard, no loud exhaust or massive induction kit.

So I’ve had it 3days and have traveled about 600miles in it and I’m very impressed. I’ve always been a Renaultsport fan, having had a Clio 172 and a Megane R26 in the past. If someone had said to me even 2 years ago that I would want and then own a Corsa VXR I would of laughed at them but with the Nurburgring Edition having a mechanical LSD, Bilstein Suspension and more power it’s what swayed it for me, I wouldn’t of bought a standard VXR I would of probably had the Fiesta ST as that is IMO better than the new shape RS Clio and also isn’t automatic. But although arguably the Corsa isn’t as good as the ST I think on the average road and an average driver (me) there won’t be much in it.

So plans for the future, I want to get a few cosmetic items. I like the wing extension I’ve seen on a few VXR Corsas, also I want to change the aerial because it looks a bit grott and a Nurburgring VXR badge for the back. And not forgetting a PistonHeads smiley when they are available. A decent sound system could also be on the cards as the basic one fitted IMO isn’t very good, again a different sound system has never been something I’ve considered in the past, but as I do a lot of driving for work it only makes sense to get a DAB system with Apple Car Play. Performance wise, at the moment I don’t feel like it needs anything, it pulls very strongly through the gears and sounds good in standard form, again something that’s new to me as I’ve always increased the performance of my cars (my Megane had almost 300bhp)

So that’s it, I’m going to try and get to the South Wales Sunday Service this weekend if I can find out the meeting point so if anyone is around it’ll be good to meet you even if the Corsa will be out classed by the Porches, Subaru’s and GTRs.

Anyway here’s some photos taken with my phone so not the best quality, I’ll try and get some better ones when the weather is better.

Driven lots of them on the VXR Trackdays, ignore those who will say Vauxhall this that or the other - they are a damn good package, and great fun.

Do you know what number yours is as there's a register over on vxronline, so you can add yours or see previous owners/history etc

I’m a member of VXRonline but haven’t checked out the register. Will do that.

Great colour - too many boring coloured cars on the road (mine included)! Enjoy.

I used to own a Corsa VXR yearrrrs ago. Also a former member vxronline.

The 'Nurb is a decent car. Best Corsa Vauxhall released!!

Went out this evening to the A4069 which was nice and quiet for a change, apart from a Porsche Cayenne and a Saab 9000 there wasn’t anyone else up there. Had good weather all the way there then as soon as I got to the top of the mountain it started to rain and the hail. But after that there was an excellent sunset.

5 of us and camera kit left the studio to be confronted by a white Corsa.

What idiot rented this tiny car! I exclaimed, until I clocked the VXR and Ring badges.

Right everyone, squash in!

I was impressed.

Looks great mate. Made for them type of roads. They are quite an exclusive Hot Hatch.

So I've had the Corsa for almost a month now and so far I'm loving it. Im getting around the mid 30s mpg so quite happy with that, its about the same as my other cars were, but on a steady run I can get well over 40mpg which is loads better than anything previously.

Ive added a fey little touches to it just to make it my own.

First of all was the addition of Yoda. My wife said the car needed a name and as its green we thought Yoda suited it.

I wanted a Nurburgring sticker to go around the VXR badge on the boot so found this on eBay, ideally want a silver or black one but the white will do for now.

And then this week I got rid of the scabby and rusty old antenna and replaced it with a Halfords special, which I think looks loads better.

The old cruddy one.

The nice new one.

Also this week I fitted my Scan Gauge 2. I'm not sure if I want to keep it there or have it in the car at all at the moment, It just looks so out of place. Also for some reason its not reading boost pressures. (if anyone would know why comment bellow)

The driving with work is a lot more fun now. I had a few inspections last week in the South West and then a course in London so had a nice late night blast along the 303 with very little traffic.

At the hotel car park in London after the road trip from home to Bridgewater, Taunton, Plymouth and then to London. Yoda was clean when I left the house.

I don't have any plans for track days at the moment, maybe though as its something I used to do a lot and want to get back into.

Thanks mate. Was never a fan of the Nova GSi I had a 205GTi instead. But the way this VXR boes down the road reminds me a lot of my GTi.

So I've never been one for adding parts just for the way they look, but with this car I find it lends itself to a bit of personalisation so I've added a bit of trim pipping to the door panels and some funky Lego dust caps.

Not sure I like the colour, maybe the same thing but in Red to compliment the VXR and Nurburgring details would be better. Its suoer easy to fit, I tink the whole thing took less than an hour and it was cheap as chips costing less than a fiver.

I was also near Pembrey recently with work so thought i would pop by to see if there was anything go on but it was all quiet.

Pembrey... Are you based in Wales?

If so I think I saw you at a Llandow trackday back in February.
