Evening all,

Quick question, do VAG diesel engines use coolant?

First VAG car. Skoda Superb 190ps diesel. Brand new in September 2017. 10,000 miles now covered.

Yesterday I did a 330 mile journey, all fine and went to bed.

Got in the car this morning and got a low coolant warning. Popped the bonnet and found the expansion tank empty. Topped it up and went to work (10 miles). All was okay when I got to work. Came home tonight and no warning, haven't checked the level, will do that tomorrow morning.

Do VAG engines go through coolant at all? Haven't had to top up coolant levels since having a shed of a Peugeot 405 twenty years ago...head gasket problem highlighted the fact I had to top up the coolant back then!

Had Mitsi L200's, Jag XF and 2 Discovery's since then and never had to top up coolant.

Thoughts?

Late reply sorry but am researching this for myself. I have a 2017 Leon 1.6 tdi. The coolant has dropped from the crease in the tank to the full mark in 7 months and 20k miles. This is a couple of centimetres in that period.

I see posts saying any loss is bad and others saying that most services coolant will need to be topped up.

I guess this leak is not as bad as yours. How is it now?
