I’ve been trying to find a good SUV deal as we have a baby due in September. My wife absolutely loves the VW Touareg, I’ve tried persuading her to get an Avant but she’s not having it! Volkswagen have the 6.8% apr used car event running on until the end of the month (ending very soon) and the best deal I’ve been offered for a 17 plate is:

Price of the car - £31991
Tire and Alloy Wheel Insurance - £299
Total - £32290

Term - 4 years
Milage - 10,000 miles per annum
Deposit - £5000
APR - 6.9%
Monthly payment- £377.28

That includes:
2 years’ warranty
2 years’ roadside assistance
2 years’ MOT cover
2 services.

I can afford up to £450 a month and £5k is the max I want to put down, is the deal above any good? My only other options are BMW but that will be considerably more expensive, Audi but id only get the old shape Q7 and the old shape is just too big, Jag F Pace - again too expensive.

This is the first ever PCP deal I’ve ever looked at and I’m just wary of getting my pants pulled down.

I’d consider getting a lease deal but can’t seem to find any in my budget, hence going down the used car route.

If anyone else has any suggestions of other SUV’s I can look at please list them.

Thanks for all help and suggestions, Christian.

You might be able to get a loan from sainsbury's at 3.0%. Should be cheaper than the used car PCP rates.

Why do you need such a big car with 1 baby?

You'll be abe to get something new within your budget in the class down.

Borrow 25k at 3%. Add your 5k to it. You can get a 17 car for 28-30k. Sod the dealers and their finance game playing.

I prefer the bigger SUV’s to the smaller ones. I had a look at Tiguans, the only one I liked was the R-Line, however the suspension has been lowered so much on them it’s only a bit higher then a golf.

Mind at that kind of miles per annum, and assuming its diesel you are looking at, potential of DPF/EGR issues with the car.

Tyre and Wheel insurance - generally cheaper as a stand alone product and please do check the T&C's on how many claims per year/excess etc compared to 3rd party policies.

Have you thought about the Skoda Karoq, Kodiaq or even the Seat Ateca (all based loosely round the Tiquan)? If you went for the smaller SUV, could easily get on lease on your budget and potentially go for petrol and negate any potential for DPF/EGR and have a full 3 year warranty too.

the annual mileage and diesel making sense thing isnt black and white. at one end of the scale you might have someone doing 5k a year but the diesel will be fine as they might only do long runs at weekends. at the other end, someone might do 20k of all town/city stop stary driving where regens are impractical. in a big SUV the characteristics of a big diesel are great, with reasonable running costs. a 1.4TSI in something like a kodiaq will be far inferior to drive vs a 3.0 TDI.
