Opinions on potential new car
Discussion
Going to look at this 4 Series on Monday,

I did want a diesel version as I do around 15k a year so the extra mpg would be good, but with all the uncertainty over diesel at the minute i think going for a petrol is probably more sensible. Does anyone have any opinions on what the 420i are like, are they fast enough ? decent enough mpg? i would prefer the 428i but its a little over my budget really and looking around at other similiar cars it seems like a reasonable price, my part ex is worth 10k, what sort of discount should I be looking to get off the price of the BMW, hoping £19k would be achievable.

Only things I can add seeing as nobody else has...
- It has Pro Nav, although I'm pretty sure this was standard on M Sport 4 series after 2015, it's definitely worth having over the Business;
- My first 4 series was white with red leather and I really liked it, nice colour combo IMO;
- M Sport Plus pack worth having, I have it on current 4 but didn't have it on previous, I'd imagine quite rare smaller engines?
- I like having the reverse camera, although it does make you a bit lazy, might just be me;
- Make them change those grills!
Engine wise, I'd take the 420i over the d every time. 20i is smooth for what it is, its adequately quick but whether it's quick enough is up to you?
I've extensive experience of 420i vs 420d and 435i vs 435d. The only one I'd quickly dismiss is the 420d when against the 420i.
Can't help you on discounts or whether £20k is a good price but if I had £20k and did decent mileage it'd be a strong contender.

Cheers for the reply, reading reviews online it seems the 20i is like you say adequately quick which would suit me currently have a Fiesta ST so might not be as quick but it shouldn't be too far behind. I do like the red leather the only thing putting me off slightly is the red dash ... although the few extras it seems to have make me think i could live with the red dash. Im with you on the grill though it looks daft I did hope the m sport colours on the grill would just be covers and pull off leaving the original kidney behind rather than having to change the grill ?- It has Pro Nav, although I'm pretty sure this was standard on M Sport 4 series after 2015, it's definitely worth having over the Business;

As above pro nav is a must. The standard nav looks cheap and naff with the horrible surrounds
Personally I'd look for a 420i/428i or 430d. A 2 pot 4 banger diesel doesn't belong in a car that looks like that IMO
agree with you on the standard nav looking cheap but I think the pro became standard ? either that or a lot of people specced the pro nav as an option, agree about the diesel but can't ignore the mpg figures it seems to get although i want to avoid diesel at all costs really even if it is a euro 6 diesel. Personally I'd look for a 420i/428i or 430d. A 2 pot 4 banger diesel doesn't belong in a car that looks like that IMO
