Why is it that even under the NHS we have to pay for dental treatment when you don't have to pay for going to a GP, it's all healthcare? Also if you have an extraction at the dentist it'll cost £250 but if you're referred to hospital it's free.

Just curious about why there's a difference and you could also say the same about opticians.

Because the politicians say so.

Healthcare is subsidised in the UK: Hospital and GP treatment and appointments 100%. Prescription charges, dental, optical etc partially. And it's means tested too.
