M2 Competition - Deposits & Deliveries
Discussion
Placed my deposit today. 3rd deposit the (large) dealership had taken apparently. Surprised they hadn’t taken more. Late 2018 or early 2019 delivery.
I have a really good feeling about this car - the spiritual successor to the E30 M3 - E46 CS - 1M bloodline? Hopefully it won’t be a disappointment as I have a habit of (financially) dropping my trousers on new M cars.
Mine will be stealth black, orange stitching, bucket seats, manual, uprated brakes.

I put my deposit (£1000) down in June 2016 and at that time was third in the queue. Can't do anything more until price lists are officially released, but was expecting/hoping for a very early delivery which would be September. Having said that I did the same for the original M2 and the delivery was delayed so long that I bought a M3 instead. Having had the M3 now for 2 years the practicality of the larger car will make it difficult to down size to the M2. Have to seriously think if I go ahead with the M2 or not, could be too small as I need at least one practical car. I hear firm orders will need to go ahead in about a fortnights time.

Isn't that what was said about the original M2? The M2C has added weight which I can't help thinking is going to count against it. M division seem to be torn between making the ultimate driving machine and keeping the non-enthusiast buyers happy with creature comforts.I'm interested in swapping my M2 for an M2C but will wait until the launch excitement has died down a bit.
Interesting comment re: weight. That had crossed my mind, but my sense is the M3 engine might turn it into a bit more of a beast. The current M2 is a great car, but history suggests that BMW M are good at mid-cycle updates. Await the reviews with interest.
Re: changing from an M3. I had a 2015 M3 (F80 or whatever it is). Great car. I then got an X5 so the practicality box is ticked, but if I still needed that from a single car I doubt I’d go from an M3 to an M2C.

Looking like November delivery (second at the dealers). Spec’d at £52k including upgraded brakes, HK speakers, Apple CarPlay, reversing camera, black wheels, folding mirrors, LED headlights, seat heating and one or two other things. Manual (so no DCT) and no sunroof. Debating the electric seat functions. The new seats are standard. Currently going for Long Beach Blue as I had an Estoril Blue E46 M3 back in the day (and hopefully this is its spiritual successor).
Out of curiosity, how were they able to spec you a car without giving a price guideline? They can only spec it if they wind the date forward on the system, and having done that, they can see the price (less OTR costs).
My concern is not so much that you’ve dropped your trousers, but that you’ve bent over as well...

Not seeing anything for the M2C on the BMW configurator so do dealers have access to prices and specs which aren't yet showing on the website? Very much a personal thing but if the interior options on the M2C are as for the M2 - i.e. any colour you want providing it's black - I'd be opting for a glass sunroof; with you on the manual gearbox though!

See my point above: they can wind the date forward on the ordering system and spec a car to meet your requirements. When they do this, the system gives them prices less OTR costs...Very much a personal thing but if the interior options on the M2C are as for the M2 - i.e. any colour you want providing it's black - I'd be opting for a glass sunroof; with you on the manual gearbox though!

I'm with you on this. The M2 is a very capable car. Very few drivers will be capable of extracting all of its performance potential on the track. Its capable of carrying a lot of speed into apex and doesnt need a stupid punch tieing it up in a knot on exit. It's a nonsense to drive it anywhere near it's limits on the road. It doesnt need more power but for an enthusiast, it needs a lot less weight. I'm interested in swapping my M2 for an M2C but will wait until the launch excitement has died down a bit.

How’s that possible, when I tested the M2, the salesman done a finance quote on an existing pre reg White M2 with the same exact spec as yours with the DCT and it was 52k, few months ago too, I thought the competition would carry a premium, you could almost say all M2 customers got ripped off! Thank god I didn’t go for it, I would have been furious Chestrockwell said:

If you were going to be paying £52k a few months ago for a pre reg M2 then you would of been getting ripped off. The dealer is out to make as much money as possible, bit of research and you would of found them a lot cheaper. Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
