Hi guys,

Perhaps one of you mechanics wizzard could help me.

BMW just replaced the exhaust gas pressure sensor and exhaust temperature sensor on my X5 (following an "incorrect adblue fluid" message and the dashboard engine light on).

I got the car back on Friday. I took her for a 60 miles drive, and there was at some point a weird smell, not particularly alarming though - I told myself it probably came from outside.

Once at destination I discovered with shock that the rear plastic bumper around around the exhaust (on the left-hand side exhaust in particular) had melted! I guess the cause was a very hot exhaust. See picture below.

Any idea what might have caused that?

No idea, but it seems clear it's related to the work BMW just did so I'd say it's their problem, not yours.

Probably something afoot causing prolonged DPF regeneration.

yeah, clearly this is caused by the work they did. I am worried that this could have caused further damage to the car/engine, that they would not necessarily make me aware of...
