Both are a mix of not popular and semi-sought after...
924S - the 'only' 924 to get (if you excl. Turbo / GTS)
996 - If you are going to get one get the facelift later model

One is a quarter of the price of the other.

Thoughts?

Funnily enough I was just looking at old Porsche's on autotrader earlier this morning (I'm allowed to dream). Surely it's no contest, if the budget allows then a 996 is the answer?

924s are beginning to get the recognition they deserve, and prices are rising to what they should have always been.
996 is underrated right now but will rise on the coat tails of other 911 types

I would say ANY flat 6 Porsche (Boxsters included) will be desirable in a few years time.

VWs ownership of Porsche will dilute the marque to a fashion label, Porsches built before will always be desirable.

If you have the budget to run a 911,then 911 if not a 924 is great value and relatively cheap to run

Really ? The 996 fanbois are frothing over the 3.4 nowadays, doubly so if it's an early 3.4 with cable throttle. And no sunroof.

Hi,

On the pricing. Yep the 996 is 4 times as much as the 924S I've found - might just be it's a good one?

Interesting on the 3.4, need to do a little more research.

Had a Boxster, but it magically turned into a new kitchen...

We're also +1 now so need 4 seats rather than 2.

Thanks for the comments.

With space in the garage I'd have a clean 3.4 996 manual coupe in a heartbeat

I would also question the four times the price as I would have thought the 996 might be twice the price. I have both a 996 and a 924S and that is the sort of cost ratio I experienced when looking at the reasonably nice 924s just purchased . Really good value for money at the moment as well

Both are a good choice but the 924S may be the safer bet from an ongoing costs and risk perspective
