After 7 happy years with my 997.1 turbo (manual), i sold it a couple of years back because it just wasn't floating my boat any more. By comparison with my m5, I think it was just too muted unless doing silly speeds and the manual was smooth and enjoyable, but I began to find it tiresome whenever running into traffic.
But I miss the uniqueness of the 911 and am keen to get another. I've long wanted a GT3, but am wondering whether the Turbo S is also worth considering or whether I'll get bored after a few months. I wouldn't track either car, but would drive only on weekends (so want it to feel special) and woul take it to Germany for the odd weekend.

Also, if I want a 991.2 GT3, what's the most sensible way of getting one?

You'll have to buy a 991.2 GT3 used for an inflated price I'm afraid frown

Fair point, but are there particular independent dealers to trust / be wary of? Should I wait for a car to appear in the OPC network?

Usual suspects Top 555, JZM, Romans, Bramley, Redline etc

Although I'd also be phoning every OPC as they will get cars back against GT3 RS's etc so I'd reckon in the next couple of months most will have one up for sale.

as other have said, Top555, Romans, JZM will all sell you one.

OPC cars will filter though as a few get the RS, not sure many will be for sale if you want an "ideal spec"

most have been comfort PDK cars so far, I guess most people who went Manual are keeping them atm as no RS is manual so it's the top of the line if you want a manual GT car.

Many OPCs have 991.2GT3 as it was a condition for many people who got 991.2GT2/GT3/RS cars to return them for the next one. These are then being offered by the OPCs at the price point that is set by the flippers (as opposed to the list price point set by Porsche and offered to the OPC's customers/prospect network who missed out).

You could say Porsche is trying to support the flipper defined market biggrin

as I understand it, you want a pdk car anyway - so maybe get a 991.1 GT3 and drive that until the 992 Turbo S is launched and order one of those if you feel the GT3 is not the ideal car for you. I suspect the 991.2 is incrementally better than the 991.1 as always with Porsche, but it is doubtful that you will feel short-changed in the older car / it is worth the premium currently payable for it (if a manual is not a must have)

Any idea on how many 991.2 GT3 released to market so far and the split on comfort v clubsport?

No, but while a few posters stated under 200 I always said 350ish.

Guess what the very same people now say 350ish lol

The 1St batch were all PDK, but you can get CS in both models, then you have the T also.

No 2 cars will be the same due to all the options.

Just did a porsche experience day at silverstone in one of the new C4S cars and its surprising how good it was. I took out a manual with PDCC/rear steer/sports exhaust and with 420bhp it went around the short circuits really well.....in the wet.

I have had a GT3 and now Turbo.....GT3 was awesome and a tick in the box but really it only came into its own on track and outside of that was a bit of a pain. A newer car may not feel special and I get that but you'll probably use it more ? that's the way I'm thinking now...my Turbo sits in the garage a lot of the time, I end up jumping in whats handy outside.

We’re talking about the used market fella.

Good, pragmatic advice, imho.

I'm a bit like that..I suffer from a low boredom threshold and as a consequence i'm always chasing the latest thing..As an example i went down to my OPC on Monday with the intention of buying a T..However since there were none even close to my ideal spec, on a whim i took out a 981 Spyder for a testdrive..
I bought it immediately as i had more fun driving that on roads at sensible speeds than i ever had in my GT3..I also love driving my new Sport Turismo as it constantly amazes me how Porsche have managed to make a 5m 2T+ barge with air handle like a sportscar..
With my GT3 my expectations were so high it was no real surprise that it actually drove as well as i expected..
Some cars i drive where i don't expect greatness and i always derive huge pleasure when they over achieve..The 981 Spyder and Sport Turismo are both great examples..Another was the standard 370HP Targa i drove last year.
I'd wager that i'd get the same pleasure when i drive the T..

My problem when a car i test drive surpasses my expectations i usually end up impulsive buying
A fool and his money........

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll hunt around, most probably for a 991.2 GT3. There’s no great urgency, I suppose - I was easily tempted by the 997 turbo and could easily be seduced by the 991 turbo s, but would prefer something a bit sharper and edgier, this time around.

I found after the arrival of my .2 GT3, I couldn’t stop driving it, even for routine stuff and commuting. So I changed my DD Cayenne S Diesel for a new M3 CP and I still can’t stop driving the GT3. It’s that competent and versatile.

100% take the GT3 over the Turbo S unless it was snowing!
From what I have been told Cars have to be over 6 months old to go on the AUC site and some GT3’s will be on sor so could be down to a afternoon of ringing around dealers to see if they have any.

Have you tried cooking models? The regular carerras are great theres the T, S and GTS. I find them all more interesting to drive than the turbo and fast enough particularly the GTS.
Nb surprised you found a 997tt muted compared to the M5 which M5 was it?
