Hi all,

New to the forum, have recently taken a promotion in work which gives me a reasonable budget towards a car (c. £350 a month). I currently have an Audi A3 s-line on lease which is due to end in the next 6 months so looking to order something new shortly. I love the Audi, especially the interior but have been looking at alternatives.

So far for a similar price I have narrowed it down to a Q3 1.4 TSFI (think it was s-line), GLA AMG line (think it was 1.5 petrol) and as a curve ball the new VW Arteon 1.5 petrol R-Line.

I know the VW is a completely different car but was surprised at the price, it’s slightly more than the other two but a good £150 a month cheaper than the A5 or C class coupe when BIK etc taken into account.

Any advice on good choice from those? Any trim levels / extras to look out for / avoid? Any experience owning them?

FWIW I will be mainly using it for my 40 mile round trip 3 days a week and the odd longer journey for holidays round the uk etc. I probably do 10k a year roughly.

Thanks

if you have an opt out option be sure to do the sums to see if it works for you. bik is getting ridiculous on fully expensed cars now, especially when you factor in a surrendered cash option.

Yeah I can opt out but the cash equivalent is quite a bit less, though you are right the bik is insane. Looking 150-250 depending on car. I’d order a BMW hybrid for the bik saving if they were accepting orders on the 3 series. The I3 is horrid and the 5 series is just too big.

Could you get a A3 etron or a golf GTE? Would be much less bik!

Have looked at both of these and the list price difference (both over 30k) negates any saving from the bik so they end up in a similar price bracket to the more desirable (to me) Q3 and GLA!

Hmm that’s a shame, the Q3 is outdated and due to be replaced shortly. As is the GLA.

I would go for the aerteon, it’s a newer model and will have nice extras like ACC and car play etc and would be worth the extra outlay

Just the usual Audi bashing, that even though they are nice cars they are drastically terrible or something. Ignore it.

Good info, I did think both had been on the market for awhile. Same with the a3 I guess. I’m gonna have a closer look on the weekend at the arteon so will check out how the interior stacks up. I’ve heard good things about it.

Thought so. I’m not an expert but I do like the Audi’s interiors, compared to my uncles 1 series it’s chalk and cheese. I’m sure the performance on the bmw pisses all over my a3 but I don’t care. I only want to get to work in relative comfort not take part in a rally.

The “imagine” is an old joke on PH, the blokes not being a knob, you’ve just not seen it before.

Correct. A very funny series of random posts from a man who loved his Audi A3 S-line. smile
