Can't you write to them explaining that you refuse to pay since the BBC are in breach of their charter due to being politically biased lefties?

I'm sure I read on here that there are people that do this and get away with it.

I've just been in the same situation, just ring them up and tell them the name of the licence holder and they sort it out. Much easier than I expected.

I hate the advert that says, basically, 'We know where you live' in a threatening manner. And your taxes paid for the advert too...

So why don't they just go round to everybody without a licence and collect millions in fines then?

Send the licence off. They should have the correct paperwork to match up the bit you've got with the right details.

would advise sending a photocopy,
most likely originals will be lost and they you will have no paddle at all in that river you are canoeing along.

Write back and tell them that you refuse to pay to support the marxist BBC and that access to information is your right under EU human rights legislation and it is a breach of your human rights to make you pay for such access. They are welcome to take you to court where you are happy for the law to be tested.

Generally they prosecute single mothers in council flats and have less of a stomach for the fight if you stand up and tell them to off. A Sunday Times journalist who campaigns against the licence fee took this approach with them some years ago and as far as I know they have never prosecuted him.

We must be one of only a few homes in the UK that doesn't have a television or TV card. We told the TV licensing people many times and they came around for a visit about 6-9 months ago. I was at home on my own so was wary to let a guy in the house - all he had was a clipboard, didn't show ID. I told him to come back another time, he started trying to intimidate me into letting him in saying I'd be reported for denying/refusing access etc etc. We have heard nothing further but expect another visit - hopefully he will show ID and husband will be in. After this happened I found out they need a warrant unless you let them in.

That's why their letter starts "we have no record of a licence in your name at this address", it is probably a scam to get money out of the few people who will get scared at a threatening letter.

When I called them up, they already had details of the other licence on screen once I quoted my new reference number, so they are definitely trying it on.

I got one of those. They have a record of a licence at my address but not in my name. Seen as the requirement for the licence is for the address not for each individual at the address you'd have thought they would just say "we have no record of a licence at this address".

We even pay by DD but in my better-half's name.

Fools.

I don,t think that is strictly true. If you rent a room to a lodger for instance , I believe they would need their own licence.

You dont actually have to let the person in to check if there is a tv. Whilst at uni when everyone else was frantically stowing tellys in boots of cars and people with licences suddenly found themselves with 15 tvs I left mine where it was.

License person comes round 'mind if i come in and have a look round' - 'yup i do, come back another time'. Job done.

We had them call round to our student house. We were all watching neighbours in the lounge and the license chappie could see the TV through the lounge bay window from the doorstep.

We told him we were moving out the next day (not quite true, but soon after). He said well in that case any future communications would end up in the bin and there was nothing to worry about. Good chap.

I feel sorry for all the students in halls of residence being caught by these guys. Students and pensioners should get a free license.
