Research into ASR of Glioblastoma Multiforme

Sorry for choosing a deliberately obscure title, trying to avoid the usual hysterical suspects that are about.

Already the media is falling all over this, and of course unfortunately putting all sorts of confusing causal and correlation links in their bid for readers and are jumping straight in with mobile phones cause brain tumours, alert alert be very scared tactics.
However it's something worth investigating further, and probably won't be proved without further work and a longitudinal study.
But essentially the ASR (incidence rate per 100,000 of the population) of Glioblastome Multiforme, a very particular and aggressive form of brain tumour has doubled from 2.4 to 5. It is a statistically significant and sustained rise across all ages, and is hidden in the overall data by a reduction in incidence of lesser cancers.
It cannot be explained by elevation of lower grades of cancer, better diagnostics or random chance, it affects only one part of the brain and in a specific way.
The rise across all age ranges suggests that environmental or lifestyle changes may be significant.
