I was traveling clockwise on the M25 at 0500hrs past the Cobham services. With a bit of research, I think it was a fixed HADEC camera on a gantry (??) that flashed, but this is the thing...

I was in the inside lane and doing c.85mph and following another car at a distance of 20m ish. The speed constant, neither gaining or losing ground on the car in front. There was a double flash as we both went under the gantry.

Is it a double flash like a GATSO that has to double flash and it just got the front car or did it flash once for each car?

I'm unsure how these sort of cameras operate or if it was indeed a HADEC 2 camera.

It's a fair cop either way, just curious to know my fate! I know all the 14-day rules etc, etc...

Perhaps the second flash was for the 20m gap! Nearer 40metres at 85mph would be better.

It could well have been the cause of the second flash; me. Pinged him then pinged me 20m later.

I'm now told it was a HADEC 3 that probably got me.

Do they flash once or twice for a single photo anyone?

At that speed, a 2 second gap should be closer to 80m between cars.

They flash once for a single photo.

2 photos are used in each offence record so 2 flashes.

So if there we only 2 flashes and I was the car behind (20m..! - noted!) doing the same speed might've been lucky.

It depends on how fast then it can re-set itself before the next photo I guess? (pretty sure it was only 2 flashes)

Indeed 76m, I forgot to multiply by 2. So 20m is about 1/2 second gap.

You know variable speed limit motorways are going to have cameras. Why mess with exceeding the speed limit by enough to set one off?

yes The clockwise HADECS3 is at the second gantry east of the services (about 3/4 mile). These two little yellow beasties here.
To have run the risk of getting caught you're either a gambler or one of the few people who don't know where the M25 HADECS locations are. frown
Have you been lucky? Maybe: you'll only need to wait a maximum of 14 calendar days from the day it happened to find out. smile

Seriously, 20m at 85mph. I would not want you to be driving anywhere near me!

Can I ask why you were so close?

It was a guess, it could’ve been 40m.

Yes, of course you can.

Why twice as there are no road markings afaik?

My Granny claimed she was flashed by the scruffy one off Last Of The Summer Wine

Apparently she simply asked "What's so special about yours then ?"

As per above the only Hadecs camera near there is on the clockwise side about 1 mile or less before you get to the svs, its up hill, is that where you were? If not then it was not a Hadecs cam.

For future ref try and look out for the tall camera pole with 3 mini cams on them 100m before the gantry (with the yellow spy cams).

Let us know what happens and fingers crossed its nothing more than a lesson learnt not to do it again - and nothing nasty arrives in the post!
