So my brother has decided that he wants to buy his first hot hatch so to speak, he has found a Civic Type R locally with Full Honda Service History:

This is the car: http://www.stevejamesmotorcars.com/car/honda-civic...

Any advice please on areas to look out for, I was a little concerned with the mileage, just incase it needs a new clutch. But any help would be great. You will also be pleased to know I have bought a IS250 SE-L so no more car buying theads from me.

These are extremely reliable if looked after, that mileage is nothing.

They do use oil, so it’s important to check regularly and have regular oil changes with high quality fully synthetic oil. Doing this protects the timing chain, and means it will just keep on going!

Valve clearances benefit from being done every 50k or so, £100 at a specialist.

Check it engages third gear cleanly (some 2007 cars had a third gear synchro problem, however most were done under warranty).

Other than that, it’s just regular maintenance - one of the most reliable cars on the road, which is amazing when you consider the high revving nature of the VTEC powertrain smile

Early cars could rust near the top of the windscreen because of a dodgy seal.

There was a recall but it's worth checking whether any car you look at had the team work done.

Check rust under the rubber along the top of the windscreen. Check generally for signs it has been tampered with. Check wheel arches for signs of damages - break easily. Many use oil - mine used more than a litre every thousand miles. Interiors can be pretty rattly. Don't get it on the 19s the ride is fking atrocious and tyres extortionate. Brake parts and exhausts aren't cheap.
