Ok. So I hit a particular age, 30s age group, and now everybody I know is now familied up; a particular age I know but whatever happened to Friday nights in the pub with after dinner drinks? Or Sunday lunch? Or Brunch ? Dining out late in the pub generally? Am I being over sensitive or have the families taken over? Late night drinks in the pub? Child free flights ? All the friends with young children I know haven’t slept in weeks. So I wonder why? Just why have they chosen this route? Fair play to all & all that but why wreck your lives in this way ? Sacrifice lie ins and 11am croissants for kids, wtf ?

I don’t really hate families btw. Just trying to understand their motivation. Because they (the parents) all look knackered. Any clarification gratefully received.

We don't have kids.

Best decision we ever made (although it was at least partly forced on us due to female issues)

All our friends with kids seem to have no life and have to convince themselves that their kids are the best thing they ever did - well they aren't convincing me.so they must be trying to convince themselves.

In days gone by it was for the children to look after the parents when old and infirm. These days it seems to be tother way around. scratchchin

Because people find the prospect of raising children more interesting and rewarding that sitting in a pub all weekend chatting crap.

Just a thought, I don't have kids though so could be nonsense. laugh

Oh. One other “mumsnet” question. Smoking cigars in the house/garden outhouse (as a non smoker). Why do women think it’s such a big deal ? Cigars smell nice. Wtf ?!

I wouldn't want anyone smoking cigars in my house. I'm not a woman though.

If YOMV means your opinion may vary, then bingo, you got that right.
If you really think that your friends with kids are trying to convince themselves that having their kids was the best thing that they ever did, then you’re a sad man.

Ive never wanted kids. Not saying I don’t like them or anything but I just don’t see the point of having them unless you have the urge to nurture and bring up another human. It’s bloody hard work, expensive and stressful. Plus the way the world is heading I can’t say hand on heart I’d be pleased about their future.
The sad thing is there are numptys who can barely look after themselves breeding when they are the ones who shouldn’t have bothered.

Am I? Personally I think I am a very happy man.
Unlike most parents I see.

Of course when you have children you automatically become a sage about the ways of life - at least in your own mind.

Most parents I see are happy.

OP people have different desires in life. If you like your life, great but don’t think that other people aren’t enjoying theirs because their lives are different to yours.

I'm not desperate for kids but I've got many better things to do than sit in the pub all weekend. That sounds boring as fk.

If you want kids have 'em, if you don't, then don't, it's not rocket science.

Children aren't for everyone, I appreciate that.

Don't knock it until you've tried it.

(Three great grown up lads over 30 doing very well)

To the op, starting a family because it’s the right thing to do is exactly why you shouldn’t.
I totally understand where you are coming from. I was in the same place when I turned 30. Thought to myself suppose I better do the right thing. I’m 46 now and in between those ages I’ve been single, married, house, daughter, divorced, skint, single, relationship again and now with step kids smile. It’s just life lol wouldn’t change anything as I’m happy and content now

I'm not sure which is more irritating to be honest... doting parents who's world revolves around their brats or sad, immature, child free 30 somethings who still want to act like teenagers.

Nothing wrong with you. some people might tell you that you are just selfish, so be it. It is better to realize that you don't want children now than once you have them. Just enjoy life and don't over think it.
personally I have only one child but I wish I could have many more. I absolutely love it! Am i tired? not at all. I think that it is the opposite in my family, I am hyperactive and I reckon that my child gets tired of me before I can be tired of him! lol.
I have done things I would have never done without him.
As we are on a car forum: I bought an M5 because my child. I have a 911 and enjoy it but I thought that it would be to small for him at the back so I bought an E34M5 as when I was a child, I was raving about them but never wanted one as it is a big car just for a couple. It is the most amazing car I have ever owned and we have had some amazing trips with it!
I can play LEGO again!!! yohoooo!!

Anyway, you are fine, have fun with or without kids.

Of course when you have children you automatically become a sage about the ways of life - at least in your own mind.
It’s never long on pistonheads ‘children threads’ that the ‘my life style is better than yours, you’re lying to yourself if you disagree - I’m definitely doing it right and you’re definitely doing it wrong’ starts.

I really like having my little family - it makes me smile. Granted going out is now a special treat, but I never did it terribly often anyway.

Keirik - you clearly don’t want kids. That’s cool. You don’t have to have them. However to assume because you don’t want something, that everyone else who does it regrets it makes it sound like you’re not very good at thinking.

People genuinely want different stuff from life. Is it really so hard to get your head round how they see appeal in things you don’t? And vice versa?

(Also I like that you pointed out it was ‘female issues’ - it didn’t really need elaborating on, but despite not wanting kids you wanted to make sure PH realised your junk was in full working order - because manly wink )
