Couple of years ago I put a stripe on the Boxster, and this week I removed it. The stripe itself came off very easily in about 5 minutes, but in one or two places has left some of the adhesive behind.

So I need to remove this ASAP before it starts attracting dirt, dust, dead flies and so on, but need to find something effective that won't damage the paint. I've got a big bottle of white spirit but would rather not risk it until I know it's safe.

Others must have had this problem. So what did you use?

I'd try Tar Remover, Autoglym do something if you want it local.

I don't think you could pay me to go near car paintwork with nail varnish remover.

Hot water on a towel left over the adhesive will melt the adhesive sufficiently to easily remove it.

Used this technique for removing Porsche badging and film type decals. No chemical....

You can buy proper sticky stuff remover as we use it at work. Try your local diy shop.
Also, some nail varnish remover is acetone free, but I'd still not want to wipe it across my paintwork.
You could try sticking tape to the left over adhesive and pulling it off that way too.

Edit to add.... This removes sticky stuff in seconds... shame the website doesn't explain the capabilities of this product.
