E46 330d no power at all/black smoke 51
Discussion
Hi I own a 330d which is having power issues. Once the engine has any temperature in it no turbo is kicking in and the car feels like it goes into limp mode.
A bit of background about the car:
Owned it for 3 years and the engine has been absolute gem until a few months ago it started causing me problems, current mileage 100,000. It is the 5 speed manual. The boost started kicking in late a few months back around 2500-2800 sometimes it was later and sometimes it was earlier. It was completely dead before it hit boost. Now if I start the car the car has power for the first few minutes after that there is it feels like limp mode. Just a lid of smoke and no power doesn’t even climb up hills at 20mph.
I have had it diagnosed and the boost pressure sensor came up on the computer and he said the air flow meter is under performing but not enough to issue a fault code. But he saw the vaccumm pipes were in bad shape so he recommended I do them first and then take it from their. So I changed all the vacuum hoses around 4 in total mostly he ones coming and going from the turbo/actuator... no difference.
I have a k and n filter which I will be taking out and cleaning and checking for any debris in the filter housing. When the car is cold the power does seem like full power even though it is for that limited time. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
