Hi guys,

I have previously searched a few threads and I'm very confused.

I have picked up a e39 2002 year 525i.

The previous owner has fitted a USB and Aux cables that appear in one of the cubiholes in the car.

I get no option for Aux and USB on the stereo and didn't expect it to even be possible considering age of thr car etc.

Is there something I am missing?

Pics below.

Thanks!

They may replace the autochamger input. If you have one try putting a cd in and playing it then connecting a source to your usb or aux cable.

Yeah IIRC my '04 645 had the factory-fitted aux cable in the glovebox and you had to choose the CD option to get the sound. That would be my bet.

I added bluetooth handsfree and streaming into my 01 E39 - business radio - the one with the wider display. I believe it's same setup as yours, coupled with:

and the magic mount :

.
stuck on the dash just above the vents in the middle.

Additionally I hard-wired a 5V usb supply behind the stereo and pulled the phone power cable out from behind the wooden dash trim next to the steering wheel so as to avoid using the cigarette lighter as a power source - with wires dangling over the stereo/heater controls.

Since recently I have been using Android Auto on my phone - it automatically starts/stops with the ignition on/off. It's the only app which I found to be working consistently well when the phone is in landscape orientation.

Thanks guys I have messed about with it alot and the cables are actually coming from a parrot handsfree, which didn't work.

After getting power onto the parrot handsfree these 2 cables can now be used to play music.

Didn't realise this was all linked together.

Will probably rip oem stereo out anyway as I ordered a few bits to do it before I picked up the car hehe

Thanks all smile
