Did anyone see this last night? I am continually impressed by this chap, no doubt someone will step in to show me my errors but he seems switched on and totally comfortable speaking on his views, rather than having to recite them from a script like any one of the Labour, and indeed other Tory, frontbenchers.
He destroyed Charles Clarke last night on several occasions and was unfazed and lucid under fire from Paxman - perhaps a genuinely good choice for the leadership after the election..?

David Davis is my local MP, and a pretty decent chap too (I've met him twice, although the first time was when I was 10!). I think if he were leader of the Cons they'd have more of a chance of getting in, as he seems to be able to relate to anyone.

Davis is one of those rare politicians who is actually believable and clear in his messages! I actually like the guy and still cant understand why he was brutalised by the media when he was standing for major of london! Just cos he wasnt married and dated women, he was seen as a womaniser..... eh?
So he likes women and dates them? What the hell is wrong with that? I mean, its better than 1/2 of the other politicians who galavant in gay bars while maintaining a public image of a wife and two kids..... sheech what is the world coming to?

Yes... but the last tory frontbencher who was exactly like that was William Hague - doesn't win you elections on its own!
Yes, but I don't think you can accuse Davis of having remotely the same personality/public appeal issues as Hague.
Davis seems to shine like a vaguely plausible light over a tower of bumbling incompetents on both sides of the House.
JagLover - Letwin, I just can't work him out. He's got no public appeal that's for sure and comes over as an archetypal slimy Tory; it's hard to look through that and decide if he makes any sense. My view is 'not much'. Grief I need to stop listening to Radio4 until May 6th

Letwin is an original thinker, seems to be intellectualy honest, seems to be bright ... a decent bloke and mildly eccentric ... all of which leads to a PR problem. Could he lead a party? I doubt it. Could he lead them to an election victory? I doubt that even more. But he would be a superb asset in Cabinet and would probably make an excellent Chancellor or Home Secretary.

You might have a point there-I am not sure he is ready for the leadership-but I feel he deserves a senior role at least.
I agree that Davis seems very personable and would be far preferable to Slick Jim.
Of course, it would make little difference to that (majority) part of the active electorate now entirely conditioned into voting predominantly on issues of the sodding NHS and bloody education system.
An electorate, for want of a better expression, hooked on the state, addicted to it's provision and mindless maintenance, whatever the never ending cost and entirely brainwashed into an effective drooling postulate of soft communism c/o the hateful goons in the media.
The fact that Bliar and his appalling pinko dirge have the temerity to claim that some economic Nirvana exists at a time when he and his socialist wreckers are about to smother the last embers of entrepeneurialism with a 3rd term of total European surrender and socio-economic experimentation and meddling, providing rights for every thieving piece of chavular sh1t that offends whilst bleeding yet more and more and more from an increasingly hopeless private sector and in return offering no incentive, indeed, the insufferable dilution of one's stash, the greater prosecution of one's ability to hoon free and generally shoot caribou and peasant alike: this will be your lot ~ the thick end of a foul, putrid, socialist wedge.
God help us all, the utter, utter dogs.
