My Chim seems to have a problem keeping paint on its mirrors, and once again large lumps of paint have peeled away.

Has anyone found a way of getting paint to stay stuck?

Nope. They all do that sir...

Though according to one paint shop (BeeGees in Chessington who did a fab job on the front end of my car -- all credit to them) it's because TVR doesn't key the plastic surface before painting it.

There must be a suitable primer for ABS that will allow the paint to stick - vaguely recall something for bumpers.

The naff design doesn't help, all thos edges to start peeling. I can feel a session with P40 coming on ...

Could speed be anything to do with the paint not staying on your mirrors? Maybe slowing down might help!!

teehee. gotta understand TVR owners like life in the fast lane ... I'd throw the mirrors away as they only slow you down and in the words of that ferarri driver in canonball run or similar "what's behind is not important" ..

Maybe you should be asking Citroen how they get the paint to stick, and yes, mine's peeling off too.

There are special primers for plastics but they are very expensive. I recently resprayed one of my mirrors with Cellulose direct onto the ABS (rubbed down with 400 wet and dry first) and it seems to be pretty well bonded!

What?... TVR not paying attention to simple details... surely not?!!!

Manek, can I be so rude as to ask how much you paid for your lovelly FER?

I had a front end respray a while ago and there was a few remains of masking tape on both mirrors. So I accussed them of pulling all the paint off. They resprayed both as a courtesy measure. Splendid I thought. What a sneaky little sh1t I am.

Welcome to PistonHeads TVRTess - a newbie everyone, to TVR and PistonHeads! Anyone in the Cheshire area watch out for a blonde in a Rosso Red 4.0 Chimaera - probably off to get her nails done!

She was right too, I can't deny it (she knows me too well!), speed probably has something to do with it!!

PS Don't read too much into the "nails" jibe BTW, Lynne cut her TVR teeth in my Chim 500 on a track day at Silverstone. Ask yourself - how many of your mates would you trust that much?

Bit late to this one, sorry, but the answer is that it was £600 plus VAT.

Thanks for the info Manek. Sorry to hear you're selling it but after all that TLC you shouldn't have too much of a problem.
