Afternoon chaps,

Being very open here I am a novice with this stuff and am just looking for some genuine advice, was told this was the place to come.

Next year I will have saved my budget of 20k to buy my first Porsche. I was thinking a Cayman s. I am doing some research but I wouldn't claim to be overly knowledgeable about cars.

Any advice on where to start/models to look at/pitfalls to watch out for would be great please.

Also any estimates of running costs for 2 years would be excellent.

Thanks in advance.

Porsche sub forum should be helpful - some people on there quite knowledgeable about Caymans, possible engine issues on certain model years etc

Champion thank you. I did have look there but I couldn't seem to create a thread. Do I need to wait for the 14days to be cleared?

As said above check Porsche section. My opinion is if you can afford it go for the 987 gen 2 as the earlier cars have a reputation for engine failure

OP - as mentioned above, a 987.2 is the one to go for. That basically means 09 plate onwards. They introduced a DFI engine that did away with many of the inherent weakenesses of the older cars.

For your budget, you might find that a Boxster S is more in reach than the Cayman S, with the added benefit of being able to enjoy the sunshine and sound of the flat 6 in the open air.

Sought after options include PASM and the sports exhaust, although the Carnewal mod is a cheap and effective alternative to the latter. PDK gearboxes are common but the manual is worth a shot if your porker isnt going to be a daily driver - my manual 987.2 has quite a heavy clutch.

Good luck.
