Approximate cost of this work??
Discussion
I had the exhaust emissions light come up on my 57 Astra 1.9cdti, I've had it before and it's always been the egr, it's been replaced twice in 108k but this time not so lucky, it's come back with
"EGR valve and inlet manifold heavily carbonised. 2nd throttle flaps inoperative"
The main guys who does the work is on holiday so can't give me a price or get it booked in, however his tech did say that it's a big job. They cleared out the pressure sensor and the light went out, however driving it home it came on again.
Anyone have an idea of cost or recommend and place that could do the work, I'm near Herts/beds area but could travel. If it's too much I might take the opportunity to replace it, I know not much love for Vauxhall but for me it's been a decent car.

Remove the bar that connects the swirl flaps together
Using a screw driver turn flaps 1 2 and 4 to the 10 o’clock position (open)
Flap 3 has the motor leave that alone to do what it wants, you have 75% change that flap 3 is free and will let the car think that all is fine, without it being connected to the others

Thanks for the prompt reply, I'm not very technically minded when it comes to cars, I'll do some research to see if I could that but don't hold much hope!!Using a screw driver turn flaps 1 2 and 4 to the 10 o’clock position (open)

I assume this to be a temporary fix as the carbon would still need removing.

It’s been a ‘tempary’ fix on my 1.9 for 12months
Also YouTube how to clean out your egr, it’s easy on that engine, only about 4 bolts and jubile clip to have the thing off.....
Cheers, I've seen the YouTube videos on the egr value and I'll have a bash at that, I've seen them on eBay for £40 so might not even bother cleaning it, just replace it, I assume the eBay ones are ok? Where the egr connects to the manifold he said that was blocked up but they didn't disturb it in case the carbon deposits fell in, I might try to very carefully remove some of these deposits and possibly use a hover to suck them back up, but like a dentist!! That might help it a bit, still not sure what to do regarding the swirl flaps, il research your suggestions.
If I can get another year out this car I'll be happy, it's had a lot of big jobs done under warranty, i.e. Flywheel, clutch, etc. If I can get the whole manifold replaced at a reasonable cost then worth getting it fixed and keeping it.
