So my father in law managed to reverse into my car and smash it up - outer door skin, front wing, wing mirror, bumper and the small glass window. Rear door is to respray but not bent. Nothing bent underneath.

Just trying to get a handle on whether this is going to be a write-off. Can get another between £2-4k depending on how fussy about mileage and comparable spec, but not sure what it would cost to fix mine properly?

If it's a write-off can I choose to keep the car and how does that affect pay-out? Might make sense to grab a second hand door and leave the wing as it's already scruffy and was just being run into the ground anyway.

Write off probably. My sister in law did something similar. Ended up selling the Focus for £500 rather then getting it repaired for £350.

just replace door and wing if u can get the same color job done, i wouldn't get rid im pretty sure they stopped making the FRV, and imo it's the best 6 seater out there for that size

If it goes through insurance that will be a write off.

If you were happy sourcing secondhand parts and had a friendly bodyshop you could more than likely fix that for £1k or less. How bad is the bumper any problems with the headlight bracket?

one of our friend loves their FRV I think it sits 3 up front?

If you like it a lot and want to keep & if its reliable then I would get a new door and wing and leave the back door as is.

I would be surprised if you paid more than £150 for a door and wing and paint would be about £300 or maybe less for a rough job, if you are lucky you could find the correct paint colour, I would leave the back door as is or touch up with a paint pen!

If you can fit the door and wing it would help keep cost down.

Very hard to tell if that is a right off I would have thought so especially with the rarity of that car and parts, I have been surprised recently as to what some insurers are not writing off. There was also word on a similar thread of some insurers allowing use of used parts, I don't know if that's true or not.

You might be surprised how much your (or your FILs) premium jumps even for a non fault - speak to your father in law and see if he just wants to pay!

Yes they stopped making it, yes it is awesome. Can get 6 adults in comfy and still put my kids buggy in the boot still assembled. I suspect the issue is NCAP rating on what are very slim doors and an already wide car.

There's £2k of damage to the other car too, so it is going through insurance. My premiums jumped by about £50 when I did a comparison now, so not horrific.

What are my options for keeping it and what sort of reduction in the payout would I get? The wife isn't happy about driving around with a bent wing and a new one would solve the oil leak, so that's unlikely anyway.

at a guess depending on what year it is, they should pay out what the car is worth 2 - 4 grand and give you the option of buying it back for anything from 5 to a grand most likely will be less then just get it fixed replace the two panels and job done

I've had the leak looked at before, it's an engine out job so I've just left it.

We have the 2l petrol i-vtec, it's great, but probably better to get the diesel really, gets about 30-32mpg average, which is quite low for the level of performance. The VTEC is fun though.
