hi all, i went into my local motor store today and asked a guy there what polish i should be using to get the colour back into my panels!! ive been told that most are no good and will only make them fade more!! just wondered what you guys are using for polish as my panels are begining to fade white!! i want to bring the blue back out to its former glory!!

I have bought Auto-Glym polishes at the shows (Stoneleigh and Donnington) for about 20% less than local shop prices.

If you need to cut the surface of your GRP back before polishing, as sounds likely, try using some Farecla compound. Again, this isn't cheep but is specifically made for GRP (boats, etc) and does a great job. You can get this from any car paint and panel suppliers.

for a short term make it shiny till it rains use baby oil 40p from asda you wont believe the results gradually fades as it gets wet but really hides the white fading we are going to experiment with baby oil gel [cos jan doesnt like it so its free] and maybe some silicone spray maybe welding antispatter seems the white oxidation is "in" the gelcoat so cutting it would seem to be removal of gel? or am i wrong - i'll go and read chris's tech article - baby oil has the benefit of making it smell all nice and baby fresh too lol -you'll be able to borrow your kids baby oil soon mal lol

The Simoniz Cockpit Shine sponge pads have the same effect. I think there's silicone in it so it lasts a month or so. You'll have to try it to see if you think it smells nicer than baby oil...

I knew someone once who used to polish his Ford with GTX- I think it rusted from underneath just as fast though.

Sorry to break the thread on baby oil!

Back to Farecla.......just for a teeny moment!

Yes it works wonderfull at removing the oxidisation on GRP. Unlike T-cut it lacks the amonia type chemical which should never be used on GRP......it makes the oxidisation worse. Farecla is chemically compatible with our GRP bodies (just like the baby oil is safe on your/your baby's body) so does not create the same problems as T-cut. I think I have the G400 in use. I have so far used it on the wings and sides and am mighty impressed. It has not lost any shine in 10 months without use of any other 'top' polish. Best used (G400) with a power polisher but read the Farecla leaflet or website for full info.

Hope this helps......now get back to your baby oil!

Cheers
