Are there any bird watchers here? Ive always enjoyed birds, especially the medium sized tits after shedding their nursing coats. I have 32x optical zoom on my camera (4x8 - adaptors and a very good amazingly cheap lense (Crystalvue LX) from www.ckcpower.com ) but to be honest spotting tits on the coast especially during the winter months, isnt always easy!

There are other worthy native to british species though. Ive got a few good shots of red heads, Red-breasted Mergansers, and even caught the European Shag on camera once (its real name is Phalacrocorax aristotelis - innuendo unintentional, obviously). I once went for a Long-toed Stint (Calidris subminuta) but couldnt get my kit out in time. The best prizes to come across though are Greater Yellowlegs (Tringa melanoleuca) which being non migratory give you plenty of time to plan ahead before shooting.

Come on guys, be serious Im after a 20d this year (thats a camera, not a bust size) and planning on joining the local photography club.

What isnt encouraging is the fact that the locals are (im told) older, film users, not all pro-digital and I suspect I might be the one bringing most of the enthusiasm to the group

There is considerable debate as to whether its better to have a single high quality shot or to to shoot numerous times, but have to put up with poorer quality......

I have found that to attract exotic birds to my garden, i hang fruit from the trees to lure them in.

From experience, i can tell you, i was excited when i found out that Magpies like banana.

And when i discovered Tits like melons, well, need i say more ???

Of course, you'll really have to go to the coast if you want to see Brown Booby's.....

If you slow down the rate at which you are shooting, you'll know or feel know when you've had the best shot of the day, without making a mess of things. With digital, there are no speed issues. At the end of the day you can yank off the stick, insert a fresh one, and not have to worry about running out of shots, or having to pay for them either. And digital is more easily shared, so everyone wins.

Whilst on the beach last year, I spotted a rather wet shag behind some bushes once, in the midst of self grooming. I managed to squeeze my knob and shoot off a few rounds before it suddenly dissappeared. On reflection I realised I might have over exposed things a little
