Having owned my Chim for 15months now I've always noticed that when I first start it and then reverse off the driveway, I get a strong whiff of petrol.
Seems to happen most times the car is started and then reversed, whether it's hot or cold (the car not the weather !)

Does anyone else have this, i.e. normal TVR behaviour or has someone posted something similar to this before,
thanks for any replies

Have to admit, mine smells of petrol most of the time!
Particularly when starting up from cold. After that it's more a mix of fibreglass/petrol and luverly leather! Does it go away in yours after a while?

Roar on.

Thanks for the reply, glad to hear someone else has noticed this too, it does go away after about five minutes or 100 miles an hour whichever comes first!!

Could be the purge tank has some fuel init and when the purge valve opens, that is where the fumes are coming from.

The purge tank is in the most inaccessible place in the car: in the driver side wing. At the front. You may need to remove the rad to make access easier.

Mine used to do this, and the petrol tank used to bang as well.

I disconnected all the pipes from the purge tank and vemted it out (with a foor pump!!). It was full of petrol. I got to the tank through the front grille. Not quite enough room to unbolt it, but could purge it from there.

Since then, everything has been fine.
