The Quest pundit was waxing lyrical about a “3.8 litre” C-Type and how disc brakes only appeared on the later D-Type... oh dear.
Not very impressive, but the three of 'em talking to each other (whoever they were) did not seem to be burdened by great knowledge of the subject. As written above, the commentator on the practice sessions was good at penetrating flashes of the blindingly obvious.MitchT said:
This lot sound a million times better on the parade lap than the current lot do running flat out!
Part of the difference is, for a lot of these drivers, if they damage the cars, they have to pay to fix them themselves, so when a car is alongside them, they are far less likely to defend as vigorously, as a professional F1 driver who doesn't have to pay for the repairs. The historic racers also have to take into account the running costs, so some will not be pushing their cars to the absolute limit due to costs, whereas all of the professional drivers push to limit over every single lap.
Then you have different performance levels of each car, in each group, and a bigger disparity in driving talent.
All of this is amply demonstrated by the fact that cars that were barely competitive "back in the day", are winning races, whilst the once superior cars, such as the Ferrari's, finish off the podium.
