A client at work has a 05 reg MKv Golf which I think is a 1.6 TSI, it's an auto if that makes any difference.

Anyway, it's had numerous electrical issues which may or not be related. She was complaining about a lack of power and that it would hardly go at all, I think the warmer the weather the worse it got. Her mechanic had checked various things and couldn't find anything wrong with it. But when she switched from Asda Regular Unleaded to BP Super Unleaded she got her power back and the car runs fine.

So, is this what the car should be running on or is there something wrong with it?

Are you sure its not the 1.6 FSi engine? and they do run alot better on super unleaded and I've found using Castrol edge 5W30 has stopped the engine management light poping up periodically.

You're probably correct with the FSI engine. It sounded almost undriveable on unleaded. I can understand it preferring super, but would have thought it would be able to run on any fuel available in western Europe.

I run a MK V Golf from this era....mines a diesel mind you. My mechanic, who's extremely anal about all things VW Golf, states that VW engines from this time do NOT run well on standard unleaded. In particular supermarket stuff which he says is the 'Devils Brew' and to avoid like the plague
With my vehicle it just hates standard diesel. With it I get the regeneration light illuminating whether it gets a long fast run or not. With super diesel it runs smoother, more mpg and no DPF issues.....just my personal experience for what it's worth.

I may be mistaken but have a hunch the sticker on the petrol flap states 98 RON too.
