BOXSTER 'S' ON THE TRACK
Discussion
Hi guys just after some advice on tyre pressures for the track.
The standard pressure are 29psi front and 36 rear, i did a trackday recently and put the pressures up to 32 front and 40 rear, but it felt a bit hard and slippery through the corners at high speed, should i just leave the standard pressures in for the track?
Cheers

Yes you most certainly should. The car was designed to handle properly at those pressures - you don't need to change them.
If anything I'd have thought that you might need to let some pressure out once the tyres get nice and hot. Frankly - I've never needed to bother. I've done a few track days in my 'S' now and it always gripped like s*** to a blanket at standard pressures.

Not good advice!
The factory recomended pressures promote understeer for the "average" driver.
for road use 32F/34R cold is fine.
for the track, you want minimum rollowver and even temp across the tyre. First you want to sharpen up the alignment - zero toe front and back, and max even camber - you cant go too high on standard suspension.
I have ended up with 38F/40R hot pressures, but depends on the tyre model.

You'd be the expert, Nic. But I can tell you my previous (and unmodified) S felt very composed with standard road pressures and standard geometry.
My new one is only 760 miles in and is a bit young for the joys of a track-day yet.
Welcome to forum, by the way. Mostly TVR on here but a few of us are Porsche fans.
Stand by for a raft of p*** taking about clutches, mate - I've been putting up with it for the last two weeks.

Hi Don,
i was there at the Driven filming so I know it well. There were a bunch of psyched up %^&% who abused the hell out of the Boxster trying to look big in front of their mates. Only one was man enogh to try this on the more powerful Tamora.
The clutch is not designed for max revs slipping starts. But in normal hard use they are fine, at least I have not a problem.
I am late comer to this Board, but then, I have a strong aversion to this "British" humour of tagging Porsches the same as sausages. I've no time for this at all.
Anyway, I wasnt joking that members of the Club (PCGB) enjoyed better advice, and a lot more besides.
Too bad its raining with short days, we have to post instead of drive

So were a few people on this board. Mostly from the TVR side of things. I did read your report of events in Porsche Post, mind. Still...I think Driven let Porsche off too lightly.

Well that IS going to happen at these things. After all..its a free track day isn't it! Still. I would have expected the Boxster clutch to survive it...

I imagine that made an amusing sight!

Of course not. No clutch is supposed to put up with a day of that kind of abuse....but the TVRs one survived it (well some of it..as you say) and poor old Boxster's one did not. Could have been a problem (already fixed) with the early versions of the new model?
But in normal hard use they are fine, at least I have not a problem.
18000 miles of pure joy in my last one. Nary a hint of trouble from the clutch. ABS and PSM buggered up for a fornight though!

I'm a member myself..but you'd be surprised at how knowledgeable many of our regular contibutors are here.

Me...I drive every day.
Anyway. Welcome again to the board. Spend a little time here and you'll understand that PH is a little but more than an Internet site. errr...by a long way.
Preferred, in fact, by its keenest members to ....almost anything it seems!!
