Does anyone have any good experiences with any of the instant 'PPI check' companies advertising their wares at the moment? I did try going direct to my bank (First Direct) but didn't think they were going to make things easy for me and assume some of these companies have some muscle to get the banks' cooperation. I know they get a cut, but am still interested in exploring this route, so any recommendations appreciated.
Thanks

I used Claims4You back in 2015. £16k refund from 4 bank loans and 1 credit card minus £5k in fees = £11k in my pocket. It was zero hassle, just told them names of lenders and they did everything else. Thanks
Also got a letter from Nationwide in 2014 saying they'd refunded me £1244. Hadn't even made a claim.

Thx for the recommendation...
There is no way these "instant check" companies can tell if you had PPI for you. They are bulls
tting... completely. The only way to find out if you had PPI is to check your original policy, or contact the bank.
The claims companies will just get you to fill in a form so they can fill in exactly the same form you would have filled in to contact the bank anyway.
so just do it yourself and save yourself 20%+ you lazy ...

then he's a lazy tard.could have got an extra £700 if he did it himself... which would have meant filling out the same details into a different form.
edit:
seriously what is wrong with people.
They will work 35-45 hours a week, moan like hell when the price of a coffee goes up 5p, but not bat an eyelid about handing over £700 for something they could just as easily have done themselves.
This applies to over 40% of people that put in PPI claims too ffs

You were mugged. All of the banks have online forms that you fill in, it takes no longer than 5 minutes per form. Once you submit the form online that's it. You wait a few weeks and get your decision. That is all these companies will have done. Also got a letter from Nationwide in 2014 saying they'd refunded me £1244. Hadn't even made a claim.

This being PH I expect a reply saying the 5 mins of time it'd have taken you to do it yourself is more valuable than the £5k you lost out on

This is what I don't get - I must be missing something. so many people say how easy it all is. This being PH I expect a reply saying the 5 mins of time it'd have taken you to do it yourself is more valuable than the £5k you lost out on

But I don't know if PPI was added to any of my old accounts or not. I wrote to various old providers asking for copies of the agreements including all old addresses and in some cases an account number, included lots of cheques for £10 or whatever. It was a right royal pain in the arse.
I pretty much without fail got a reply saying they cant find me. That was it. The end. I then stopped as I simply cannot be bothered to go through it all again.
I quite like the idea of a one stop shop so I don't have to deal with them all.
Where are these easy to use online forms?

What about credit cards and loans with others? to take one example - Intelligent Finance
Their PPI page says:
Intelligent Finance said:
5. I cannot find any paperwork; can I still complain?
Yes, even if you can’t find your paperwork we will investigate your complaint properly and fairly. If you are not sure whether a product you purchased from us included PPI, you can ask us to undertake a Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) and we will look for you.

They said they couldn't find me so tough luck. So did several others. Makes me want to use a third party service
Well they look a little more shady than the others in that you'll just have to complete their questionnaire and mail it back to them as there doesn't appear to be an online form:
http://www.if.com/pdf/LBG_PPI_Questoinnaire.pdf
All a third party will do is fill in the exact same forms, they don't have access to anything more than you do.
Here's one for Egg if you were ever with them:

but that's my point - the questionnaire assumes you know you had PPI. I don't - that's what I'm trying to find out but they blanked me when I tried. so did other providers.
I mostly refused any add ons such as PPI but since learning its was often added anyway I thought I should find out.
maybe I'll try again.

For the banks like Natwest, etc they offer a free PPI check, just complete the online form and they'll reply telling you whether you had any PPI. For the ones that don't, just complete the form to make a PPI complaint as if you know you had PPI and let them investigate it. Either they'll reply saying you didn't have any PPI or they'll say you did.
The ones that told you they couldn't find anything, maybe you just didn't have any PPI for those accounts?
The thing with using a third party is that you're going to have to complete a load of forms in order for them to act on it anyway. They'll just take that information and then apply it to all the same forms above. What I did was complete one form, then copied the relevant information into a Word document and pasted it in to subsequent forms afterwards.

He would've gotten more if he didn't go through a CMC. All the forms they ask you to sign are the financial ombudsman service forms. the CMCs don't really do anything, they just send your forms to FOS. You might aswell go directly through FOS and its free.shopper150 said:
How do you know who to make a claim against for things like store cards? I recall having a couple including Debenhams, but would have no idea who to make the claim against.
if you don't know you could just give FOS your details and they'll know. with debenhams it's financial insurance company limited.Edited by ambuletz on Saturday 19th May 14:02

My mother had one of those years ago and has just landed £8k from Santander who now own/manage/run it, so go direct to them.In that claim was also a percentage of the commission they made from her policy.
So, if you are out of time for the PPI claim (15 years?) then you could make on the commission.

I'd happily do it for people for 10%
