lawyers in employment and corporate law?
Discussion
Hi does anyone know or work with anyone who may take on any pro bono work in this area?
I really am asking for a friend , a former work colleague of my wife who is going through a terrible time at the hands of 2 power crazed trustees at the charity she used to work at?
issues are aa basically hostile takeover of the charity by a pair of ex teachers with very much their own agenda.
miscommunication
multiple suspensions and dismissals and looking at the constitution of said charity they may be acting way beyond their remit and may not be fit to hold the office given a clear conflict of interest
any directions would be very gratefully received
thanks
Steve

Best first stop is the Charity Commission - they are very hot on misuse of anything to do with a charity - and should give advice...I really am asking for a friend , a former work colleague of my wife who is going through a terrible time at the hands of 2 power crazed trustees at the charity she used to work at?

All will depend on the constitution of the charity
There are already multiple complaints to the cc and ofsted and the LEA with members of the council involved now too as they are the major funder of the charity.
CC don't appear to be acting that quickly
CEO who has been on suspension for 5 months after raising a grievance against the trustees for bullying in accordance with processes, that is still not heard.
Their suspension appears to be manufactured to say the least and they are being denied access to their own company documents as they are forbidden to enter the registered office.
The charity they created and run is being systematically destroyed which will only help the 2 trustees own business hence the hostile takeover comment, and at the end of it families and kids are not receiving the provision they need and the provision being paid for by the local authority.
Hence they now need pro Bono assistance on employment and corporate

With regard to running of the charity then it seems like the best course of action is under way regardless of how toothless or slow they are however the bit about commercial gain worries me. If there's any sniff of fraud or misappropriation of charity resources then you need to get that reported to the police asap.
With regard to employment, if it's a salaried position then you'll need an employment lawyer.
If you have a concise list of the issues with documentary evidence then they should give you half an hour or so free assessment and also advise on the likelihood of getting any further action funded.
I wish you the best of luck. It;s bloody frustrating when people offer up some of their hard earned in the hope that they're helping people, only to see it get misused by selfish people.

Regret not - I have given up public law and employment law and all that, and gone back to my roots in commercial litigation, although now offshore. The Mary Ward Centre might help.
I could have expressed it better. The old saying 'It's what you know but who you know'.I would be surprised of you didn't know anyone who still practices in the relevant field.

I suggest the Mary Ward Centre - it specialises in pro bono in a charity context.
PS; verb s, noun c, hence "practises". #grammarnazi.
EDIT: Punctuation PHAIL - note inadvertent use of semi colon instead of colon. GO TO PUNCTUATION JAIL

Ooops. I'm normally better at proof reading my posts before hitting submit. My excuse is an excess intake of Merlot. PS; verb s, noun c, hence "practises". #grammarnazi.

While were on the correction bandwagon.

I think you meant the Mary Ward Legal Centre.
Not the Mary Ward Centre, which offers adult learning/education.
Although the Legal Centre shares the Adult Learing Centre's building in Great Turnstile they are separate entities.*
Different company registration number, charity registration number, and contact number.
* Both come under the umbrella of the Mary Ward Settlement - http://www.marywardcentre.ac.uk/history/

Oh noes outpedanted nooooooooooo!!!!!
Here in the British East Caribbean we steadfastly resist creeping Americanism and use British English in the lawyering, but the pressures creep up on us. We are squeezed from both sides because the work comes in from Hong Kong or New York, and both are relentless Americanizers [sic]. In Courts and Government offices, the union flags and pictures of Brenda (sometimes circa 1960) are all very Empire, but the cops, although mostly unarmed, have uniforms that are a bit more American, or maybe Canadian, than 1950s British.
S,P&L parking nerds will be delighted to know that a local officer known (mainly to himself) as SuperCop is notorious for ticketing people for being parked 2 mm the wrong side of a line, but will cheerfully ignore a pick up truck carrying twelve rastamen with machetes in the back overtaking on a blind corner as well as all the expats driving home after eight Painkillers at the Nanny Cay Beach Bar. I was talking to the DPP in a bar the other night (imported London criminal silk) and she wants to give SuperCop a medal, but most people want him thrown off a boat.
BACK ON TOPIC - the trouble with pro bono is that the lawyer has to like the case, as no cab rank rule applies when working for free. NB NB NB NB - To every story there are two sides. If the OP's case is meritorious, he may find someone to help by contacting the Bar Pro Bono Unit. Maybe also have a chat with Colin Everson, one of the clerks at Wilberforce Chambers.
